BLURB:
Can two men keep a childhood promise for marital bliss?
Wyatt is overwhelmed after his grandfather dies, leaving him to take over the cattle ranch. The Triple J is floundering, vandals are targeting him, and his first and only love is finally within reach–and still holding a grudge. Wyatt has wanted to marry Diego since they made a childhood pact, but Diego isn’t back for their second chance.
When a funeral calls Diego back to Texas, he comes face-to-face with the cowboy who broke his heart. Resentment has burned inside him for years, but his anger wavers as he realizes just how much Wyatt is struggling to keep his head above water. The man he once loved is lonely and burdened, and Diego feels compelled to help him rediscover the strong, capable rancher he knows him to be.
Hostility gives way to passion, then friendship as they fall into a rhythm of work and sex. Wyatt has renewed hope he might wrangle the man he wants to be his groom. But Diego has a life waiting for him one thousand miles away, and love may not be enough to prevent history from repeating itself.
REVIEW:
Wyatt and Diego are two men who want the same thing but getting what they want is going to take some work.
Wyatt has so much sitting heavy on his shoulders and he yearns to let go of it all sometimes. Diego was the person Wyatt wanted most in his life, since they were kids. A heat of the moment choice when they were younger has left Wyatt alone with nowhere to turn.
Diego is still angry and hurt after running from Wyatt years ago, but duty and honor have him going home to a funeral. It doesn’t take long for him to realize that maybe he wasn’t so fair to Wyatt when he ran off in anger.
I enjoyed the anticipation of watching these two young men work through their past in order to find their way back together. This is a sweet story and while there were a few angsty parts, it’s mostly about them growing up in new ways.
It was easy to see where this story was going from the beginning. Diego’s attitude did bother me a little from time to time. He was a man who made a bad decision and instead of acknowledging that, he hangs on to it for far too long.
Diego’s father is my favorite side character. He’s a no-nonsense man who loves his son no matter what. We need more dads like him in the world.
This author has sexy times down pat. The steamy parts definitely are well written. The author has a firm grasp on being…well, firm. It’s what Wyatt needs but he’s not willing to take it from anyone but Diego. Wyatt grows a lot as a person in this novel and I enjoyed following him on his journey.
The storyline dragged a little in parts and I found some of it kind of repetitive, but all in all I liked it. It kept me reading until the end, if for no other reason than I wanted to see their happy ending.
I will definitely be looking for the first book in this series, even though this one can be read as a stand alone. I enjoy this author’s style very much.
