BLURB:
I was living a lie. I couldn’t be caught in my deception, or my family and friends would abandon me. But my fears became reality and I was cast away as if I were garbage. Then this man, a stranger, took me home and showed me that love can take on many forms, that I’m not filled with sin or doomed to go to hell because I’m gay. He showed me that I’m not broken. I don’t need to be fixed. What I need is to be nurtured and cared for.
This man showed me it’s okay to be his boy and to call him daddy…
Seth was a good Christian son raised in a very conservative church.
He learned early on that the world is evil and filled with sinners—but the most horrible thing you can be is gay. When his shame is discovered, he’s shipped off to a special camp that fixes deviants like him. Years have passed since then, yet he still runs from himself every day.
Malcolm was a good daddy for almost 10 years before his boy died.
No longer daring to be too close with another man again, he’s avoided clubs and old friends that remind him of a life filled with a joy he can no longer have. Unable to find a purpose in his lonely existence, he spends night after night in a dive bar at the edge of town. However, witnessing a scared young man being harassed by two bullies jolts him out of his misery.
No one messes with someone vulnerable and helpless on his watch…
REVIEW:
This is a cute and pretty sweet story, although the backstory is a bit heartbreaking. Seth is a sweetheart just trying to find his way after escaping his second stay at a gay conversion camp. He was brought up in a religious cult-like family and has led a very sheltered life up until this point. Malcolm is a Daddy with a big heart who only intends to help Seth out, offer support and friendship as Seth grows accustomed to life on his own and in the big gay world he now chooses to live in. Malcolm is there to guide him and answer any questions he has about being gay, etc. as he continues to learn that just about everything he was taught is a lie.
It is clear that Seth is looking for a Daddy (even if he isn’t quite able to put a name to it), and Malcolm seems the perfect fit. However, Malcolm is still getting over the loss of his last Boy and has no intention of taking on that role with someone new. But, the Daddy in him is just not able to sit back when he can easily provide and care for Seth who so obviously needs it. Seth’s past is truly heartbreaking. He was practically brainwashed and abused physically and emotionally over his gayness until he just about broke before escaping. He is resilient and strong and you just want to wrap him up in a big ole hug and never let others hurt him again.
I sometimes have issues with Daddy/Boy kink – although I firmly believe in to each, their own. Often it feels rather enabling on the part of the Daddy wanting to do everything for their Boy – even to the simplest things. I have a difficult time with treating adults or young people as you would a child – how will they ever fend for themselves if they can’t even be responsible enough to zip up their coat if its cold out? Regardless, that is probably my issue but I had a bit of that feeling with this story. So, while it was sweet and enjoyable, it lost some of the realistic feel I look for in my stories. However, I enjoyed the writing style and I will definitely not hesitate to pick up another story by Ms. Knight in the future.
