What would YOU hoard as a dragon?
By Jenn Burke
In my latest release, dragon-shifter Nassim has a hoard, like all good, traditional dragons do. At first, Aidan, his executive assistant—who happens to have amnesia—thinks that Nassim’s hoard is his collection of art displayed in the living room of his penthouse. After all, the pieces are contained in glass display cases, so they have to be important, right? He soon realizes that Nassim’s hoard is something else entirely.
So that begs the question…what would YOU hoard as a dragon?
For myself, it would probably be books. Although I don’t read many books in paperback anymore (and my bookshelves thank me), I have about 2000 ebooks. My newest tattoo pretty much captures me in dragon form, right down to the happy smile on my dragon’s face. I’m sure a lot of people reading this post can relate!

If I couldn’t hoard books, for whatever reason, I would hoard…muscle cars. Just a little more expensive than books, but we’ll pretend as a dragon I would have unlimited funds. I’d start with the modern versions of the Dodge Challenger, the Chevrolet Camaro, and the Ford Mustang, and work my way backwards. I’d add to my hoard a 1982 black Pontiac TransAm (otherwise known as KITT from Knight Rider), a 1977 version of the same car (from Smokey and the Bandit), and an Eleanor (the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 from Gone in 60 Seconds), too!
(My 2014 Camaro RS, which I sadly no longer own. Someday I’ll get another muscle car…)
I was having so much fun coming up with ideas for a hoard, I thought I’d ask a few author friends what they would choose to hoard, if they were dragons. Here are their responses!
“Cherry coke. Because I can rarely find it in Canada.” – Rachel Reid, author of Tough Guy
“If I were a dragon I’d hoard rice crackers from Trader Joe’s because I can’t get them here.” – Mel Gough, author of Their Special Agent
“Hair clips and ties that will actually hold thick hair.” – Allison Temple, author of Hot Potato
“I’d say candy except how can you hoard it if you keep eating it?” – Tanya Chris, author of Manners & Mannerisms
“I’d hoard books and boots!” – Kim Fielding, author of Convicted
“Jolly ranchers, ice cream and books!” – Alexa Gregory, author of The Kelpie’s Redemption
“With my personal library of over 3000 titles, I would hoard books. Also, craft stuff for projects I don’t have time to do (beads, fabric, threads, etc.). The craft stuff would be softer to lie on. But I’d probably still have to be careful about setting it on fire.” – Jennifer Carole Lewis, author of Deadly Potential
“Yarn Jenn. I’d hoard yarn!” – Kris T. Bethke, author of Lost Souls Found
“I would hoard tabletop RPG dice! (specifically d10s) They’re so pretty.” – Alex Whitehall, author of Hard Truths
“I would hoard cupcake puzzles! Ideally 300 piece puzzles but I am willing to be flexible.” – Xan West, author of Their Troublesome Crush
What would YOU hoard as a dragon?
A Golden Kingdom Novel
The heart remembers.
When Aidan Bishop staggers out of the woods, naked and suffering from amnesia, he needs to relearn who he is and where he fits in the world.
His boss, nearly five-hundred-year-old dragon Nassim, head of a successful tech company, hurries to claim his wayward assistant and guide him back into the life he disappeared from. As they get to know each other again, Aidan wonders if their relationship went deeper than employer and employee. But Nassim isn’t telling, and Aidan has a secret of his own… even if he doesn’t know it yet.

Jenn Burke has loved out-of-this-world romance since she first read about heroes and heroines kicking butt and falling in love as a preteen. Now that she’s an author, she couldn’t be happier to bring adventure, romance, and sexy times to her readers.
Jenn is the author of a number of paranormal and science fiction romance titles, including the critically acclaimed Chaos Station science fiction romance series (authored with Kelly Jensen), the Not Dead Yet series, and the Golden Kingdom series.
She’s been called a pocket-sized and puntastic Canadian on social media, and she’ll happily own that label. Jenn lives just outside of Ottawa, Ontario, with her husband and two kids, plus two dogs named after video game characters…because her geekiness knows no bounds.
