A gentle bartender might have what it takes to mend a relationship-phobic detective’s broken heart… but first they have to admit they’re dating.
Keenan Day could kick himself for letting the hot, dark-haired stranger he met outside a strip club get away. Instead of a phone number, he gets a punch in the face—from the boyfriend of his prospective employer at the Cowboys and Angels bar. When two cops come to check up on him, one is the sexy stranger, Detective Nate Gordon.
The initial attraction hasn’t cooled, and though Nate is leery of commitment, one hookup turns into another until they’re seeing each other in everything but name. After a recent nasty breakup, Nate balks at being part of a couple, and Keenan agrees, even though that’s all he’s ever wanted.
Just as they reach a standstill, a crisis shows them what their friends have known all along—they’ve already moved way past hookups. Now they just have to decide how to move forward.

Poor Keenan! The guy seems to have just ran out of luck. First, he loses his job, and then he gets punched in the nose when he went for an interview for a new one. If that wasn’t enough, the man he has the hots for not only works with his sister, but he’s determined to avoid relationships and only wants to hook up.
Pretty rough patch for Keenan, right?
For me, this is one of those books that gets you all giddy and warm from the beginning. I mean, of course you have an inkling to how it ends, but right from the first pages the story is THAT funny, you just know to get comfy and ready for an exciting, awesome ride.
Watching Keenan and Nate’s “non-relatioship” unfold was a delight. The story is told from Keenan’s perspective and it’s obvious how happy he is with having the “hook ups”, absolutely not dates, with Nate…at first… Because, the more time they spend together, the more Keenan falls for the ‘slippery’ detective and the more his happiness becomes irritation and disillusion.
It’s bound to hurt to keep being referred to as just a friend when Keenan feels like they’ve stepped well into boyfriends territory. So it’s no surprise that his heart couldn’t take any more and he puts a stop to things between them.
Can you can guess how long it takes Nate to dig his head out of his backside and admit that he feels the same way? Thankfully, not long…and then they can have their happily ever after.
Why read 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲? Because you’ll get to know the sweetest character, prone to fall on his a** at the worst opportunities, who’s slowly swept off his feet in love with the skittiest, sexiest detective. Because you’ll laugh and awe all through the development of their romance and enjoy the meddling of their families and friends. In a few words, because it’s so much FUN!!!
I loved it!

Keenan really is the sweetest young man. He tries hard to stand up for what he believes in, even if it’s not in his best interest. Fortunately, he is smart enough to learn as he goes along…and then he meets Nate.
Nate is a good man…who needs a smack up the back of the head. He’s determined to keep his heart to himself and leave relationships behind. I’m not sure who he’s trying to fool more when it comes to Keenan, himself or the young man who he can’t stop thinking about.
As humans we are really sometimes stubborn enough to keep denying ourselves something we really want because of fear. Nate is a master at avoiding his own feelings and it almost costs him the best man he’s ever met. Keenan tries so hard to convince himself he’s fine with Nate’s relationship reluctance, but eventually it gets to painful and he has to put himself first.
I loved Keenan’s relationship with his sister. It feels so real to me and it’s one I can relate to with my own little brother. It’s also nice to have a few scenes with the couples from the first two books. These are my favorite kind of series, where each book moves on to a new couple and leaves the HEA of the previous couples alone.
Sue Brown is gifted with a great talent for writing dialogue that is sharp and witty in all the right spots while still keeping the sweetness that I crave in a good romance novel.
I didn’t find this book quite as compelling as the first one in the series but I guess when you start with perfection, it can be hard to live up to. Still, I enjoyed this book immensely. The intimate scenes are sweet and sexy and as always, Sue Brown’s characters are easy to relate to. You just can’t help rooting for these two men to figure their issues out (especially Nate) and find their way together.
This is a wonderful addition to a really great series and I’ve come to expect nothing less from this talented author.
