Sometimes love catches you by the tail.
Native American veterinarian—and werewolf—Chayton Wilson dreams of a fair-haired mate. However, he’s shocked to find his mate is a man. He’s not quite sure what to do with a male mate, but he’s more than willing to find out.
Keaton Reynolds wakes up in wolf form and finds himself with a mate. He’s instantly attracted, but not thrilled to find out the man is supposedly straight. A past relationship where his partner denied being gay left a bad taste in his mouth. Keaton wants to make a break for it and pretend he never set eyes on Chay—but Chay is not ready to let him go.
Together they work to battle prejudice and solidify their shaky relationship. When a power struggle in Keaton’s pack threatens Keaton’s life, the two men must quickly learn whether they can depend on each other.
REVIEW:
This is one great way to start the series. And if the blurb for the next book is anything to go by, it’s going to be just as good. Especially considering what happens in this one.
Keaton was just getting used to living in New Mexico with his new job, when he was out hunting in his wolf form and was shot. A game warden from Chay’s pack brought Keaton in and immediately knew it was his mate before he even opened the door. But he assumed Keaton was a girl. That his mate would be a girl. But he was in for a big surprise. But then again, Chay wasn’t really surprised because he had dreamed of Keaton his whole life. But as Keaton is patched up, they all kind of assume it was a poacher. As Chay and Keaton get to know each other, it’s hard on Keaton at first. Chay is ok with Keaton being his mate, even though, he thought he was straight. But Keaton is nervous Chay is just humoring him. Chay knew he was going to have to woo him. It doesn’t help that certain key people in Chay’s life are against Keaton being his mate and that Chay is with a man. It also doesn’t help that someone is still trying to kill Keaton. There have been several attempts on his life. As he makes a reconciliation that he never thought possible, Keaton and Chay have a plan to draw the killer out. And when they do, it’s a shock to Keaton and everyone, because it’s not who they thought. At all. And they may not make it out alive because this killer has silver bullets and just shot Chay as Chay was trying protect Keaton. And they have to rush to save him.
Keaton hasn’t always had it easy. Being a three form shifter is a rare thing, and then coming out as gay made it worse. Plus he was a bit on the short side and a bit smaller than most, so he was picked on. Picked on so bad, that his own brother challenged him with four other wolves. Thankfully, Keaton showed his power and kicked all their asses, but now everyone was weary of him as well. He just couldn’t win. Now he’s in a new state, starting his life over, and someone is trying to murder him. When will it end. And his mate is male, which is perfect for him, but for his mate, there was a bit of doubt at first. Now everyone is mad because Chay, who was known for being straight, has a gay mate. It’s one constant thing after another. The only good thing out of this whole ordeal is the fact that Chay was acceptant of his mate. He didn’t care Keaton was male. He was his mate, period. And Chay set out to woo him as much as possible in every way to let him know he was beautiful to him and loved for who he was to him. He didn’t need a girl. He needed Keaton, and he’d go to his grave making sure Keaton knew how precious he was to him. And that is what made this book. No matter what they went through, they didn’t give up. Even when they felt like it at some points. They didn’t. They stood by each others sides and kept going. Proving they were meant to be and no one would separate them. Ever.
I’m definitely curious to see how book 2 is going to go. Because one of the MCs in this book, has just had several shocks of his life and almost died. And now he has a whole new life to adjust too. It’s going to be interesting.
