Mud, sweat, and reluctant romance. Can Aiden and Matt sort out their feelings before race day?
When Aiden agrees to run the Mad Mucker–a twelve-mile muddy slog over an obstacle course–he’s expecting it to be a bit of a laugh. The training will be tough, but Aiden could use the motivation to regain some fitness.
Matt is the sexy cousin of one of Aiden’s coworkers and a last-minute addition to the team. When he agrees to train with Aiden, Aiden suddenly finds the prospect of regular workouts a lot more appealing.
Soon attraction flares, and they embark on an intense physical relationship. Matt doesn’t want to fall in love with a man, and Aiden doesn’t want to fall in love at all, but despite their insistence on no strings, they grow closer. As the day of the race approaches, time is running out for them to work out how they feel about each other.
This book is a standalone story with a satisfying happy ending.
Please note that this is a re-release, and although it has been re-edited with British spellings it has no new content.
REVIEW:
Aiden promised a friend to run the Mad Mucker, a crazy, cold, long team race. There’s no way out of participating, especially after he’s shackled to a hunky, bossy training partner, Matt.
And so my entertainment begins, because the lazy slob is hilarious, disgruntled by having to exercise instead of couch snuggling. Huffing, puffing, lungs burning and whole body aching. Lamenting every mile and trudging behind Matt, although not completely unhappy with the view of Matt’s bouncy backside, lol.
As you can imagine, it doesn’t take long before Aiden and Matt go from being training partners to bed partners, aiming to keep it casual, just to blow off some steam. And, eventually, it’s no surprise that their keeping it only sex plans backfire. “The damn touchy-feely snuggle hormones” start messing with Aiden’s mind and heart, feelings that he sees reflected in Matt’s eyes.
Someone more poetic might say that these two men had gone through a training regime for their body, mind and most of all, their hearts. But I’m not poetic, so I’m just going to say that that I’ve had a lot of fun reading about their workouts, in and outside the bedroom. And I never cheered so much ad I did when the finally grew some big boys pants and owned up to their feelings.
Nothing Ventured is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Jay Northcote. A story that kept me smiling from beginning to the end, while also gripping me by the feels. Loved it.
