Kicked to the curb by his wealthy parents, Lake Adams works four jobs just to get by. When handsome Blaze Harrington walks back into his life, Lake doesn’t have the time to flirt. Besides, the first time they had met, the sexy biker had turned Lake down. Now Blaze seems interested, but in more than just a one-nighter.
And Lake isn’t boyfriend material. Ever since his older brother died, Blaze has run the Hedonist Motorcycle Club. He also owns a porn company, Hard Time Productions. When he decides to merge with another company, he’s surprised to find his new business partner’s PA is Lake Adams, the feisty, sharp-tongued young man Blaze had met at a party over a year ago. Blaze has come to terms with a lot of things since then and, after some initial uncertainty, wants to give dating Lake a try. But the guy’s burning the candle at both ends and determined not to make things easy for Blaze. However, the more Blaze sees of Lake, the more he’s convinced the man is worth the effort.
And Blaze is a determined man.
REVIEW:
Blaze and Lake
Sometimes things are not so obvious!
Opposites attract. A biker and a brat who both come from privileged families. I guess what makes the idea of opposites attractive is the novelty that they are not like each other. Their lives are the total opposite, so that makes them interesting.
Life throws us curve balls all the time, right? All we can do is try to run with it the best way we could. Sometimes we get hit hard, sometimes we find ourselves trying to bounce with it. In this story, the main character got hit really hard and he is struggling through it, barely making it.
Blaze Harrington took over the leadership of his Motorcycle Club when his brother died. He lost all of his family early on and his best friend after. He is trying his best to make the club as low-key as possible, doing a legitimate business and encouraging his brothers to do decent jobs. As for his love life, he has been going through women akin to changing socks, it’s that often! But meeting Lake again makes him think twice. His attraction to Lake brings to mind how he felt about his dead best friend, Jake.
Lake has been disowned by his parents when they learned that he is gay. He has been juggling four jobs just to get by, but even that does not allow him to have a decent meal even once a day. He feels that no matter what he does, it’ll never be enough but he gets up every day to do it all over again. He is kind of bratty as a way to protect himself from being a victim again. Meeting Blaze again has made him feel things that he never thought he would, given his history. But he has some lingering issues deep within that even he didn’t know or didn’t acknowledged.
The dynamic between the two MCs is interesting because they totally do not define their true selves, without all the trappings outside. Outward appearances sometimes fool us into believing one thing, but the reality of which is totally different. I think that is why this particular series of books keeps me on pins and needles, the characters are not your typical pairings.
Congratulations Ms. Rebecca James, can’t wait to start on the next one.
