BLURB:
Vampires old and new, strong and sensual, with desires both predatory and protective. Their attraction is fierce and fascinating, and their love is eternal. We believe they deserve a very special kind of man—and their own happily ever after. Four best-selling authors bring you their own take on the vampire lover’s story.
In Out of Time by Clare London, the ancient vampire Ambrus tries to protect Edward, a newly-turned young man, hoping to bring him comfort, acceptance of his fate, and eventually love.
In Christmas for a Vampire by Ruby Moone, grief-stricken vampire, Ellis Davenport, faces a miserable, lonely life when it seems the love of his life prefers death to eternity with him.
In A Tale Told in Darkness by Sue Brown, Lee comforts his lover with the tale of Brook, a vampire who falls for his neighbour Michael. When the young man is pursued by someone far more dangerous, only Brook can save him.
In Lamb to the Slaughter by Joanna Chambers, there is very little Lucien St. Villiers enjoys more than hunting for beautiful young men who are eager to learn all that Lucien has to teach them.
REVIEW:
These are four novellas from four authors in the M/M romance genre who gives their spin on vampire characters.
Out of Time by Clare London, the flow of the story started off a bit slow for me but soon picked up mid way into chapter two. Despite the initial flow, I still enjoyed it. The characters and storyline was well written. If anyone deserved happiness, it was Edward. Edward lived a sad and miserable existence and his transition into vampire life actually frees him from it. Ambrus was content in his vampire life but you could tell that he was a bit bored with it and his stumbling on Edward in the filthy trenches in a war zone was a blessing for both men. The story flowed well after the second chapter. The author did a lovely job of maintaining the storytelling through the many decades.
In Christmas for a Vampire by Ruby Moone was a bit heartbreaking. This one tells the story of Eillis and Quinn. This story was done in a Christmas setting, just in time for the holidays and flowed well from beginning to the end. The MCs and peripheral characters’ storylines were well written.
In A Tale Told in Darkness by Sue Brown was my favorite of the four novellas. This novella gives us Brook, an older vampire who falls for his neighbor Michael. In the past, Brook looks for young men to quench his thirst but this he found his fated mate. This story had a touch of suspense mixed in with the romance. This one was my favorite of the novellas in this collection.
In Lamb to the Slaughter by Joanna Chambers was quite lovely. This one tells the story of Lucien who enjoys the beautiful young men he feeds on. Like the other men Lucien has encountered in the past, he was drawn to for the same reasons he’s drawn to the other young men: their beauty and their blood. Only this time, Lucien got more than he bargained for in Marcus. This is a spicy cat and mouse style story with quite a few twists and turns that left you wondering exactly who was the one being hunted.
All of stories were lovely and engaging. The authors came together and presented the readers with four really enjoyable reads. This collection is just in time for Halloween and is a treat to the vampire fans out there.
