At five-foot-two and skinny to boot, Maximus Bonner has always been a little sensitive about his size. When he’s forced by his job to attend a team-building activity at Rolling Meadows Ranch and Resort, his worst fears are realized—outdoor activities. On top of that, he overhears the hottest cowboy at the place making fun of the little stringbean. His anger getting the best of him, Max lodges a complaint against the sexy man.
As a vampire, Rhyme Mythstone has been waiting for his beloved for over a century. Imagine his surprise when he comes in the form of a tiny slip of a redhead with a fiery temper. With one teasing comment, his chance at wooing the human goes up in flames. Max wants nothing to do with him. Can Rhyme figure out a way to prove that he loves his beloved’s size and can make him happy?
REVIEW:
Note: While technically #19 in this series, it works fine as a standalone.
Max and his company are heading to the ranch owned and run by the Vampire coven with Master Jaymes as their leader. Rhyme is a vampire who works on the ranch. Max likes his job, except for the idiot homophobic jerks that work there. His best friend Lilibeth works there as well though and he puts up with it. He’s been kicked out by his family for being gay and so he doesn’t want to rock the boat. Besides, there are also nice people who work there that he likes.
Rhyme realizes right away that Max is his beloved, his soul mate, his other half. He offends Max at first, because Max is very sensitive given what he’s gone through. Later he realizes that Rhyme’s nickname for him is a term of endearment rather than belittling him.
When the idiot homophobes that Max works with harass him and Rhyme catches them, Max is grateful even though he’s also a little bit humiliated. Max bosses have overheard the harassment as well and finally do something about it 🙂 Rhyme gets closer to Max as a result and cares for him and his injuries. They also spend a good evening together at the ranch activities hayride. When Max has to leave the ranch to go back to the city, Rhyme gets his number so that they can be in touch and start dating.
As they get closer, Max ad Rhyme have a great time. But of course Rhyme has to share the truth about paranormals with Max. He hopes that he doesn’t run screaming, because of course they need to bond 🙂 Max is cute and funny and Rhyme won’t be able to live without him!
This book as usual follows the formula of this series. It’s an enjoyable quick read and Max and Rhyme are hot together. Of course it was great to see the homophobic idiots get punished and called out 🙂 If you’re a fan of this writer and this series, I think you’ll like this one.
