Hush is back… and it’s about to get loud.
After two years grieving the death of his best friend, Silas Franklin is back on the road with his metalcore band, Hush. With a new member, a brilliant new album, and a headlining spot on the last cross-country Warped Tour, life couldn’t be better—unless Silas could meet the intriguing music blogger known only as the Guru. Silas has followed his blog for years and feels the Guru might be the only person who “gets” him.
For years Krishnan Guruvayoor has reported on the metal scene as an anonymous blogger, and he’s just landed an internship on the Warped Tour as well as a potential position with a well-respected music magazine. His best friend arranges for him to meet singer Silas Franklin—but only as Krish the Intern. Their chemistry is instant, and Krish is thrilled to get to know the man behind the music.
The rock star and blogger quickly go from meet-cute to cuddle session, but secrets, overprotective bandmates, meddling media, and a terrible accident all conspire against them. Can their romance survive the summer of Hush?
REVIEW:
A new Rock romance from a new-to-me author!
Krishnan Guruvayoor has just graduated from college and life is looking up. He is an intern for his favorite rock tour, Warped Tour, and is looking at landing his dream job as a writer for his favorite and most respected music magazine, Alt-Scene! But is he ready to give up his anonymity and become known by all or is he happiest hiding behind his blog and his pen name The Guru? Silas Franklin has had a really rough couple years after his best friend and band mate, Gavin West, committed suicide. One of the things that got him through it all was The Guru’s blog. That man understood what it was like to lose someone close to him. Now he has to meet him! They all know The Guru is supposed to make at least one visit to the Warped Tour but no one knows exactly who he is because he has hidden himself so well! But Silas is determined to meet the man that has become his fascination. Little does Silas know that Krish has had a crush on him for years. What will happen when the two men finally meet?
This was a fun cute-meet fast-forward to love relationship book that took a little bit to finally grab hold of me. I understand Krish’s reluctance to divulge his secret identity but when Silas basically asked him if he was The Guru in so-many-words after their little overnight heavy-petting make out session that was the time to come clean. They let each other know that they were beyond liking each other and it was time to man-up! I get it though, Krish and The Guru may have been the same person but they were two different personalities. Such is the same with most authors and their pen names vs their real lives. But, when intimacy and budding relationships are involved, honesty needs to be key to make sure they can thrive and survive.
The part of the relationship equation that surprised me most was Silas and his forgiveness level. I know it is stereotypical to type cast the famous rock star as the broody, difficult one, but he seemed, at least to me, the more rational and solid one. Could be because of his age and also what he had endured in the last couple years, but he wormed his way into my heart more and more as this story went on. And truly, as evident in the past with their group and media, the one with the most to lose.
One of the biggest reasons I rated this as 4 Hearts was that I kept thinking that I must have missed an earlier book. The characters would refer to something and I would have no clue what they were referring to. It would become confusing and draw me out of the story. Most of it was resolved later in the book, but it was a bit infuriating during those moments.
Although I never saw it listed in anything, I have high hopes for this being a series with these final words…“The End. Stay Tuned for more from the Summer of Hush…,” and I for one am looking forward to more.
