REVIEW:
Wow. This series is amazing. Before reading these books, be forewarned, it deals with white supremacists, Antifa, race wars and such. Just keep it in mind. It’s not real bad but it’s the point behind it.
Hunter is kind of killing time. He’s supposed to be doing consulting work for the FBI, but they really haven’t given him much to do. As a matter of fact, the FBI is trying to shut Cal out. He’s already lost his supervisor and now no one is listening to his reports. When his old friend Barnes gets ahold of him, he considers joining the ranks of Dark Sun, a ‘consulting firm’. But as soon as Hunter meets Barnes, he knows something is off. And he’s right. Barnes is heading up a white supremacists group as well trying to start a race war. He’s also trying to set Hunter up to get Cal back and on his side. But Hunter can’t keep things like this from Cal and he tells Cal everything. From the meetings with Chad, to the meeting with Hunter and everything in between. Cal is furious and doesn’t know what to believe, but knows Hunter wouldn’t lie to him. And it’s made him really think about Barnes and their past and his eyes have opened. And now they have to figure out how to stop this race war and stop Barnes from doing what he’s trying to do. They stop the war, but the cost was Cal being hurt and now Barnes is in the wind. And Cal and Hunter now have to constantly look over their shoulder to stay alive.
Hunter skirts the line a lot. He knows it. Cal knows it. Cal has to turn the other way sometimes, but he knows Hunter is trying to do things for the greater good. But Hunter is caught up in something now and he doesn’t know how to tell Cal. He knows Cal will be upset, especially when he finds out it involves his traitorous friend, Barnes, and now he’s involved. I feel for Hunter. He wants to protect Cal from this but he can’t keep this a secret. He can’t. Cal has to know who his so called friend really is and what he’s planning. It’s odd how Cal and Hunter’s relationship works sometimes. Cal gets furious but somehow they work it out and usually in the bedroom and they can calm down and figure it out. I’m glad it works for them but this is huge for them. It’s almost like a no win situation for both of them. With the FBI shutting out Cal and Hunter dealing with what he is, it’s shaking them up. But they are working on building a strong foundation to surpass the trouble they get into.
I’m ready to see how book 3 is going to turn out with Barnes in the wind. The man has money and contacts and he’s not stupid either. I’m hoping Cal and Hunter make it out alive. I know they’re the heroes of the books, but still.
