REVIEW:
You know, one of my favourite characters in this series is without a doubt Savage the parrot. This series wouldn’t be what it is without him and his dirty mouth. He unfailingly lightens the mood whenever he’s present and leaves a huge smile on my face.
It’s nice to see Gabe and Josh so settled in their relationship. The back and forth is only a memory, and they are moving forward with their lives together as a couple. Dyed and Gone to Heaven is more lovey-dovey and cutesy than the others, but I like seeing my men happy. Spending time with friends and family, old and new. The Sunday dinners, that once only consisted of three people are ever expanding to include more and more people. There is of course some drama and meddling, but what else would you expect from this bunch? Especially from Josh who can’t seem to help himself from putting fingers where they don’t quite belong.
It saddens me that my least favourite impression of Joel Leslies’ is actually Savage. If it’s my preconceived notions of what my mind wants him to sound like or not, I can’t say. But his voice just doesn’t fit the dirty bird. I wish he’d go a bit nuts and OTT with Savages voice, because as it is now it sounds a bit subdued and don’t really portray the feel and mood of the moment. But you know what, if the impersonation – or lack thereof – of a parrot is the only negative thing there is to say about a narration that makes me a very happy listener. And trust me I was a very happy listener of this book.
The mystery as such is a continuation from the previous book, with new twists and turns and surprises along the way. Along with a few answers, though some are still to come in future books. Josh and Gabe though ended on a very happy note.
