Never promise a life that isn’t yours to give.
New York City is decked out for the holidays, and Special Agent Patrick Collins is looking forward to a reunion with his old team when he gets assigned a new case. A human child is missing, and the changeling left in her place causes a prominent witch family to demand justice from the fae.
Meanwhile, continued harassment from the New York City god pack forces Jonothon de Vere to formally establish his own with Patrick. Doing so will mean a civil war within the werecreature community—a war they risk losing from the start without alliances. Making bargains with the fae is never wise, but Patrick and Jono have nothing to lose when a fae lord comes asking for their help.
The Summer Lady has been kidnapped from the Seelie Court, and if they can find her, Patrick and Jono will cement an alliance with the fae. But the clues to her disappearance are found in Tír na nÓg, and the Otherworld has never been kind to mortals.
Venturing past the veil, Patrick and Jono risk losing territory, time, and their very lives while searching for answers. Because the Queen of Air and Darkness knows they are coming—and the ruler of the Unseelie Court has an offer for them they can’t possibly refuse.
A Crown of Iron & Silver is a 107k word m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot and a HFN ending. It is a direct sequel to All Souls Near & Nigh. Reading the prior books in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.
REVIEW:
This series gets better and better with every book. Wow. Just wow. I still feel sorry for Patrick and Jono, though. Those boys can NOT catch a break and this time things are getting much worse.
Patrick is called in on a case where a child has been kidnapped and a changeling is in its place. The parents of the lost child are powerful witches, at least the wife is, but nothing they have done can find their child. As far as the fae child, they are disgusted and Patrick is disgusted with them over their attitudes over any child. But what Patrick doesn’t expect, is how deep this case is beginning to get. Especially when his old squadron of Hellraisers come for a visit. Which brings even more secrets and surprises. They have to go to fae land in order to fix half of what is going on, but bargaining with the fae is never easy. They may never lie, but they never tell the full truth either and wording is always a puzzle to do just right. When they all to fae lands, Patrick and Wade are kidnapped by the Unseelie queen and his old captain is with the Seelie court and the rest of his pack and old crew, where a bomb of a secret got dropped. When his captain, Gerard has to bargain for his and his fiance’s lives, Patrick is pissed beyond pissed at the secret Gerard kept. But in order to get out of this alive, they have to make a deal with the devil, so to speak. Madb is going to give up Patrick without a price and Patrick realizes after several interviews with fae and such how involved and connected it all it. And it all leads back to his damn father again with a shitload of twists thrown in. But with what they are fighting, they may not make it out alive this time. It’s been close before in the past, but this time there’s more at stake and more fighting back.
These two. Can not. Catch a break. My goodness. They have literally been to hell and back trying to solve this case and fix all the wrongs while dealing with shady ass fae and more packs wanting to come under his protection and rule. It’s all been a lot to digest. What’s made this book fun, though, is Wade. That boy is something else. Lol. But this book has brought out a lot more secrets. Some that no one knew and now everyone is pissed at each other for keeping things close to the vest. The problem is, Patrick and Jono’s secrets were to keep them safe and alive and Patrick from being arrested or worse. But then again, because of Gerard’s secret, he has as much he could lose and will lose soon because of his bargain with one of the fae. So it seems everyone has kind of had a price to pay this book. And none of them have been real pretty. They’ve costed more and more of Patrick’s soul it feels like sometimes. But he will do anything for his pack or the ones he loves. And because of what they are doing and how they’re actions have been, that pack is now growing.
It’s a hell of a book. Secrets, betrayals, lies, murder, magic, fae and so much more. It’s a book you can’t put down. And if you haven’t read the other two first. You need to or you will be lost. And knowing what we are still dealing with from the end of this book, I’m ready to see what the next one will bring.
