BLURB:
His whole life Hrafn had been ridiculed for his inability to always understand things. He was slower than others when it came to comprehending the world around him, but that didn’t mean he didn’t want what everyone else did – love. Yet, he was sure that would never happen for him, for who could ever learn to love someone like him?
With a knock on the door, Teagan’s world had been changed. Unsure how life could be so cruel and take his family from him, Teagan struggled to find meaning in his life. Searching for his ancestry led him to the place where the origins of his family tree began. If he’d known his being there would bring hell upon earth to that small town, he never would have come. Then again, if he hadn’t, he never would have met his fate.
Hrafn and Teagan must find a way to break down the barriers of their past so they can see what is Beneath the Surface if they hope to find their eternal love.

It had been a year since his world had been torn apart. Three hundred and sixty-four days since there had been a knock on the door of his dorm room.
He’d been hung over and puking in the bathroom. If he’d had a choice, he would have stayed hugging that damn toilet and not moved, but the knocking continued twice more. Rap-rap-rap. Each time getting more and more insistent, forcing Teagan to crawl across his dorm room, since standing hadn’t been something he felt he could accomplish with his head spinning wildly.
Rap-rap-rap.
His head jerked up at the sound. Whirling around, he stared in horror at the door. It couldn’t…
“Teagan, come on,” Beige called out. Who decided to give birth to a baby girl, look at her and think, ‘Huh? Plain old Beige is what we should name her,’ was something Teagan would never understand. “Dr. Whitmore just got a call from the dig site. We need to get down there right now.”
Icy tendrils of pure dread spread out along his body as he stared at the door, wishing to God he had imagined Beige’s words. It couldn’t be. Please, don’t let it be.
“Teagan.” Beige pounded on his door again. “Hurry up or we’re going to miss it.”
He had to stop them. Rushing to the door he flung it open, but before he could even open his mouth, Beige, with Truth – yep, his name was really Truth, because that isn’t a tough name to grow up with – grabbed Teagan by the arms and pulled him from his room, dragging him down the hall.
“According to Dr. Whitmore there was a light that appeared just over the dig site and it seems to be getting wider.” Truth was so excited his words had pushed together making it a challenge to figure out what he was saying, but then again, Teagan didn’t need to hear each word to know what was happening.
When they reached the door of the bed and breakfast, he whirled around, getting in front of them and pushing out his hands to stop them from exiting. “No,” he demanded. “You have to stay here. Promise me, you won’t go near that dig site.”
Knowing there wouldn’t be much time left, Teagan hoped they would listen to him and took off running east of the small town, to where the remains of a village had been discovered. There were only three structures found. It was believed the town had been built right on top of the rest of the village, but to find what they had was huge.
But it was what Teagan had discovered in one of those structures that had him running as fast as he’d ever run in his life. It had only been a small piece of parchment wrapped up in leather. The material and lettering had been so worn, it had been nearly impossible to make out anything that was there, with the exception of three letters – AED.
The name of the man who had tried to seal the Veil between the realm of the Fae and the human world more than a thousand years ago. He should have said something yesterday. Warned the others about what was to come, but Teagan had…
It didn’t matter what he thought, hoped, or prayed for. The fact was, he’d known. Deep within his soul he’d known, and now innocent people were going to die and it was all Teagan’s fault.
