PUBLISHER: Self-published
LENGTH: 188 pages
RELEASE DATE: September 5, 2019
BLURB:
An omega on the run.
An alpha fractured.
Sawyer Holt can’t go home. The Alpha who has replaced his father wants to use him as a tool to cement his political power, and Sawyer isn’t interested in marrying his father’s murderer.
Dez Sullivan’s leg may never heal from his last mission in Afghanistan, but he’s getting used to that. What he can’t adapt to are the nightmares and the tremor in his hand that the doctors insist are in his head. Next to that, being a brand new werewolf seems easy,
until Sawyer Holt blows into his life. The omega activates his burgeoning wolf instincts in a new way, and they threaten to overwhelm his common sense.
Both men are in Colorado searching for a new start, a new pack, and the safety they’ve lost. Their meeting is pure Kismet.
REVIEW:
There’s a lot to love about this story. Sawyer is an absolute sweetheart with a steely inner core. His smarts and determination to escape his fate is inspiring.
Also inspiring is Dez Sullivan. He and his friends Gavin and Ash are awesome and I loved them right from the beginning. They are the kind of guys you want to have at your side going through life. I can’t wait to see what comes for them in book 2. One of the things I love is how the author addresses the issues that come with having served your country and pretend like everything is perfect.
The insta-love kind of attraction works here for me because of the wolf-shifter angle. Shifters are my favorite genre and this one is done quite well. I love that Sawyer isn’t the typical omega who is willing to sit back and let other people save him.
And he really steps up when Dez needs someone too.
The author does a great job of creating a world for her wolves to live in. One where they live under the radar but maybe not a far under as they think.
Sawyer and Dez are great foils for each other and there’s lots of banter and sweetness to balance out the extreme heat that builds between the two of them. The sex is definitely steamy but the affection between them is evident too.
We don’t really get to know the bad guys much, beyond the whole generally being an ass thing, but they definitely are great motivators for the intensity of Sawyer and Dez’s relationship.
The story isn’t perfect. I think it goes a little too fast for my taste, as I like a little more time to build up the anticipation. It always makes the climax (in more ways than one) a little more explosive. I also like a little more angst to make the happy ending all the sweeter. I was left wishing for a little more story, but all in all, I liked it a lot.
I will definitely be on the lookout for Book 2 in this series. I don’t know who’s story is up next, Gavin or Ash, but I’ll take either one!
