LENGTH: 302 pages
RELEASE DATE: July 22, 2019
BLURB:
More than nineteen years ago, ATF special agent, Kane Delancey, witnessed his father’s murder at the hands of an enforcer for the Boston mob. He put his past behind him when he and his family entered the witness protection program. Now, many years later, the murderer he testified against, is about to go free on a technicality. The FBI and US Marshals are asking Delancey to go undercover to help to stop the killer before he has the chance to tap his son as successor.
Luca Price is a fun-loving young jewelry store manager with a bright future ahead of him. After a robbery, he suddenly comes face to face with a man who takes his breath away. Kane Delancey is big, brawny, and downright alpha male, everything Luca’s ever dreamed of. When their attraction strays from the professional, Luca hopes for so much more but there’s no way he’s going to be forced to live life in the closet for anyone, no matter how perfect the man is.
Kane has been straight all his life. He can’t imagine a scenario where he’d want to take a guy to bed, much less form an intimate relationship with one. Then he meets Luca Price, stunningly beautiful, smart, and sweet in a charming way that has nothing to do with him being gay. When Luca’s path crosses with the man Kane is chasing, Delancey is suddenly faced with a different challenge… keeping Luca and his own family alive while trying his best to end the murderer’s legacy.

REVIEW:
Yippee! A brand-new spin-off series of the Death and Destruction series with Kane Delancey as the main character from the ATF.
Kane Delancey is Dev’s new partner in the AFT that we met in the final book in the series. He is also the one who let Jarrett adopt two of his ferret babies, Orville and Wilbur. Kane is new to ATF but “he’d spent eight years in the Marine Corps and six years working as a cop in San Diego before he came to work at the ATF”. When the US Marshalls ask SAC Sarah Connor and her husband FBI Agent Lincoln Snow to please bring in Delancey in to help with a serious problem that has arisen that Kane has personal knowledge of and connection to. It turns out Kane has had a secret life no one but the Marshall’s knew about…he and his family have been in WITSET (the witness protection program) for the last 20 years. 12 year-old Kane witnessed his father being killed execution style by the Irish mob back in Boston and had to testify to put the murderer, crime boss Enoch Moore, in prison for the rest of his life…or so he thought. It turns out that Moore is dying of “stage three lung cancer that’s spread to his liver and brain” and has asked for a “compassionate release.” He is being released to his son Brandon’s care for his final days. The FBI and LAPD have been watching Brandon Moore’s Hollywood bar and are sure he is the West Coast connection for the Irish Mob and their evil doings. They want Kane to pose as a dirty LAPD Detective and get inside their operation. While he and his new “detective partner” Kelly Murphy are sent on a high end jewelry robbery and run right into that guy who sang right to him at the club while he was on a date with his newest girl-fling. There’s just something about this guy Luca Price that intrigues him (WTH) and infuriates him. There’s no denying the chemistry between the two but he’s STRAIGHT and wants the wife, two kids, dog and picket fence, something he was robbed of in his youth with his dad’s murder. Now what’s he to do with these strange feelings and urges?
I love Luca but then, as he even admitted, everyone does. He’s not only adorable and gorgeous but he’s honest, reliable and takes pride in helping people. He’s perfect! Now Kane…the jury is still deliberating on him. I don’t how he is so up and down with poor Luca and his feeling. He’s so hot and cold. And what is with his denying that he’s at least bisexual. He’s surrounded by people at work who are definitely in touch with their sexuality and would never judge him. I could have seen it as an “experiment” but how many times must he have explosive and passionate sex with Luca before he finally opens his eyes!
I also loved that Luca wasn’t a macho man battling for dominance in the relationship like in many of the past books. He knew exactly who he is. He’s definitely not a twink or effeminate. He’s all man but not brawny or huge in stature. And I think that might be part of the problem for Kane. He’s seen and definitely accepts Thayne and Jarrett but they are both very handsome and built men. Luca is beautiful! There’s no way other to describe him and he’s a catch. Kane just has to pull his head out of his self imposed closet and get on board with who he is and, more importantly, who is most important to him. I fear there is more hurt in poor Luca’s heart before Kane will finally accept who he is and who he really wants with him for the rest of his life. I just hope that Kelly continues to keep an eye on Kane and looks out for Luca’s best interest.
I am definitely looking forward to the rest of this series! I know Kane isn’t heading right back to the ATF quite yet and I’m interested in where this is all going. And I might have my fingers crossed that we get to cross paths with my two most favorite AFT agents, Jarrett and Thayne. And all the rest of the gang too. I loved seeing Sarah for a moment and the interactions with Lincoln and Mac along with Mike and Ryan!
