When they arrive at Edmund’s family estate, his sick mother and her loathsome best friend await them. While ducking religious curses, Edmund struggles to harness an unexpected power gifted him by the Elder. Andrew fears for his beloved as Edmund becomes more and more monstrous—but vampires have always been monsters, haven’t they?
A battle is coming, for Edmund’s heart and his soul, and Andrew will lose neither. He escaped island exile and a near tragedy at sea to be with Edmund, the beautiful young sailor he loves. Andrew will do anything to keep Edmund by his side, but his most dangerous adversary may be Edmund himself.
REVIEW:
Wooo. What and ending to this series. Not at all what I was expecting and I like it. If you’ve kept up, Edmund and Andrew found the elder at the end of book 2. If you haven’t kept up. Stop and go read in order.
The Elder agreed to change Edmund, but with a few stipulations of his own. Little did they know at the time, it was all going to be a trick. Andrew was upset because he wanted to be the one with Edmund’s soul joined with him, but the Elder would change Edmund over without being the one to kill him as well. So Edmund agreed. And Andrew watched with mixed emotions. When all was said and done, he was so happy to have his beloved back, he didn’t care about anything else. But as time goes on, Edmund is changing a bit. He is more prone to anger and he was quick tempered already. Being home with his ailing mother wasn’t helping. Being in his town was helping and the woman who was caring for his mother was really making it worse. But eventually it all comes out why. Secrets are revealed, murders happen, and the Elder makes it known why he’s still hanging on. But Edmund can’t abide by what the Elder wants and now it’s a matter of who will kill who first. If the Elder wins, he will kill everyone along with Edmund. And Edmund will do everything he can to protect all he loves.
Man, this book is a mindf#@k. In a good way though. It’s very good. Everything seems to be going well as Edmund is finally healthy again and with his beloved. But with the undertones of the Elder, everything seems off. But it’s not so much that it’s hugely noticeable. It’s the little things that come out over time. And for Edmund, I feel horrified. He’s the one enduring the Elder and everything from his old home. He’s trying to show that people can change, but some don’t want to forget the young man who seduced everyone. The one who broke marriages and more. All Edmund wants is to live with his beloved and be happy now. But things are changing him and he’s not liking it.
Andrew, himself, don’t know what to do. Edmund is purposely bringing out his dark side and pushing him too far. It almost went beyond repair one night. Thankfully, Edmund fixed that. But whatever is feeding Edmund’s darkness is feeding him as well and both of them are just lost at points.
It’s a hell of an ending. I’m sad to see some of the things that happened. It was heartbreaking, but happy to see how others turned out. Things that needed to be fixed were fixed and things moved forward. It’s been a great series.
