A warm welcome to author Morticia Knight joining us today to talk about new release “In The Name of the Father”.
Morticia shares an emotional post with us and brought a wonderful giveaway with her for our readers!
Welcome Morticia 🙂
When I was twelve and entering seventh grade, my parents decided to send me to a private school. As it turned out, the one closest to us was a very conservative Christian academy, and even though my parents weren’t church goers themselves, this was the one they chose. They were gripped by this nameless dread where they feared I was about to turn into a drug-using, alcoholic, shoplifting, street fighting, chain-smoking slut if I attended public school.
Instead, I got saved.
Before I go any further, I need to point out that none of what I’m about to share is a dig at anyone’s religion or personal faith. This is all about my specific experience. But it also describes what can happen when people take on the mantle of God themselves and turn it into an excuse to get what they want. That has nothing to do with God or Christianity.
To my parents’ horror, they found they had created a monster. I became so immersed in trying to save everyone else around me from going to hell, they were practically on their knees begging me to become a chain-smoking slut instead. But as the years went on and I grew older, some of the cracks in this perfect blend of God, love and spirituality began to show. By the time me and my bestie—who was deep, deep, deep in the closet out of self-preservation—reached senior high, we were done. The hypocrisy was eating away at our souls at a more vicious and rapid rate than any sin ever could.
It took us both a few more years to completely escape the destructive hold the church had on us, but we eventually got away. My friend went on to become very successful and find love with a long-term partner, while I have the joy of writing gay romance for a living—so we both survived intact. However, there have been many who were in the clutches of an extremist religion or cult who haven’t fared as well. Some can’t handle the judgement and they take their own lives to stop the pain from the guilt they carry.
In my new release, In the Name of the Father, Seth has been subjected to gay conversion therapy. Not once, but twice. However, when he’s dragged kicking and screaming back into the church’s behavior modification program a second time, he’s ready to fight back. Once he makes his escape and is ready to start over with a new life, he discovers that he’s completely out of his element. That’s when he is fortunate enough to meet Malcolm, an older man who steps in to help him find his way.
This was an emotionally draining story for me to tell, which honestly hadn’t been my original intent. Most of what I write is M/M BDSM/kink, so at first glance, that might seem to be a strange mix with a very serious topic. But as muses tend to do, they end up directing the action. The more I got into the story and Seth’s character, the more I needed his pain to be revealed, to show what sort of damage can be inflicted on someone when they’re emotionally, psychologically and physically abused—all in the name of serving a supposedly loving God.
I hope you get the chance to read Seth’s story and remember that even if he’s a fictional character, what he suffers through is not.

In the Name of the Father blurb:
I was living a lie. I couldn’t be caught in my deception, or my family and friends would abandon me. But my fears became reality and I was cast away as if I were garbage. Then this man, a stranger, took me home and showed me that love can take on many forms, that I’m not filled with sin or doomed to go to hell because I’m gay. He showed me that I’m not broken. I don’t need to be fixed. What I need is to be nurtured and cared for.
This man showed me that it’s okay to be his boy and to call him Daddy…
Seth was a good Christian son raised in a very conservative church.
He learned early on that the world is evil and filled with sinners—but the most horrible thing you can be is gay. When his shame is discovered, he’s shipped off to a special camp that fixes deviants like him. Years have passed since then, yet he still runs from himself every day.
Malcolm was a good Daddy for almost ten years before his boy died.
No longer daring to be too close with another man again, he’s avoided clubs and old friends that remind him of a life filled with a joy he can no longer have. Unable to find a purpose in his lonely existence, he spends night after night in a dive bar at the edge of town. However, witnessing a scared young man being harassed by two bullies jolts him out of his misery.
No one messes with someone vulnerable and helpless on his watch…
