REVIEW:
I think this is my favorite one out of this series. There was good action, a lot more paranormal characters, and of course, uncovering an evil plot. With Cardinals who are assholes looking for power, and a Queen who will not let it happen.
Sébastian has been Henri’s Intermediary for a while. They have a connection and a way of fighting that blend well together. So when summoned to go to Paris to fight what they think is a vampire, they end up being accosted the night they get there by a demon of power. And one who has his own agenda. Thankfully, they are saved in time by gargoyles and are set to mend. Henri’s broken arm and Sébastian’s more immediate dangerous demon bite. But with Henri out of commission, Sébastian doesn’t know how they will rid Paris of this demon. Until, a gargoyle, his mate as well, sets a plan in motion. With the help of the gargoyles, some Muskateers and a clan of vampires, they eventually kill the demon and the one who summoned him. But Luc, Henri’s mate is fatally wounded and Henri isn’t so hot himself. Sébastian’s mate is injured badly as well and Sébastian himself is kidnapped and held prisoner by the Cardinal for siding with preters. Even with the demon being defeated, none of them may make it out alive.
When I first started reading this, I always assumed Henri would retire and Sébastian would be his lover and mate. Lol, how quickly that changed and how wrong I was. But Sébastian and his !ate couldn’t be more suited for each other. Both strong willed and stubborn and Sébastian is a pistol. Lol. He cows to no one. And it’s funny. Of course, his mate likes to egg him on just a bit so that makes it even funnier.
But I was sad for Henri. He seemed like he was going to be left alone, at least until a certain Muskateer came along. So that made me happy.
This was a really good book. Spies, betrayals, underhandedness, all kinds of preters. It’s just a good little read with everything you need.
