Immortal not-ghost Wes Cooper and his vampire partner, Hudson Rojas, have it all—rewarding private investigation work, great friends and, most important, a love that’s endured. But ever since Wes sent a demon screaming back to the beyond, his abilities have grown overpowering and overwhelming. He’s hiding the fact that he’s losing control the best he can, but it’s hard to keep anything a secret for long when your partner’s a former cop…and especially when your partner’s a former cop who wants to move in together.
When all hell literally breaks loose in Toronto and superstrength ghosts are unleashed on Wes and his friends, he and Hudson are thrown into a case unlike any they’ve seen before. To save the city, Wes needs to harness his new power…and find some answers. But when he gets them, the solution to fix it all could mean losing everything.
REVIEW:
I have a confession to make…. I’m seriously addicted to this series and these people. I’ve basically been growling and grumbling at everyone and everything that kept me from this book today. I was that invested.
If for some reason you haven’t read the first book Not Dead Yet you need to go back and do that before starting in on this one. Much of it builds heavily on what happened before and let’s face it, you don’t want to miss out on a terrific book.
I loved the characters of this series and their different relationships. They feel genuine and all of them seem multifaceted and well rounded. All of them have their story, their voices adds flavour and meaning to the story. They are allowed to feel, to react and to, for a lack of a better word, be human. Usually in books only the main characters (and sometimes not even that) have backstories and depth, but here that’s true for all of them. You feel for all the characters and everything going on in their lives.
Everything that happens in this book has a meaning, it brings the story forward, gives you a clue. Some more obvious than others, but that doesn’t detract from the interesting world Burke has created. It hooks you right in and Boudreaux makes you feel like you live in it with Wes, Hudson et. al.
Greg Boudreaux is a master voice actor. He nails every emotion and character in this book; whether it’s Wes’ sarcasm or fear of someone finding out his secret, Iskander’s broken voice or Hudson’s love for Wes. It’s always spot on and just right for the moment. His wide range of voices makes it easy to distinguish between the different characters and adds another layer to the listening experience. I only have one complaint; I miss his impersonation of a high vampire that we got in the previous book, that was truly hilarious. But since there were none in this book to be had, I guess he couldn’t just go rouge and add it in just to make me smile. But a girl could dream right? J
I’ve had such a wonderful time living in this world, and these characters. But you know what the really sad part is? There are no more books published in this series, so from now on it’s a waiting game to see what happens next in the lives of Wes, Hudson, Lexi, Evan and the others. I have a suspicious feeling that things are bound to get even more interesting – as if they weren’t already.

I’m addicted to this series, too. I have both audiobooks and am trying to hold out for book 3 before I begin so I can savor them!
If you do, you have much better will power than me. I wouldn’t last more than a day, two at the most 😉
