At last, and loving it!
I am not sure what happened, but for a little over a year, I didn’t write much of anything. I just didn’t or couldn’t seem to find the time. I’m figuring the new love in my life had a whole lot to do with it. Love, and integrating a man into the relationship I’ve had with my husband of nearly 19 years. How healing it’s been! How invigoration and refreshing and wondrous. And it is done so much for the original couple in this dynamic, this triad, this real life MMM story. Reminded us how much we love each other and how much we need to remember to not take each other for granted and how we need to communicate. You can’t make three men work in a loving relationship if you don’t communicate!
You would have thought—I would have thought—that all the love would have been pouring out of my fingertips into new stories and novels. Certainly a MMM book, right?
But that’s not the way it’s been. The romance has been all about the romance in my real world life! And I never could have imagined that Real Life could be so much better than a romance novel! LOL!
But now that things are settling down and we are figuring things out, that eternal desire to write and create has bobbed back to the surface and I am writing.
At first I tried my hand out at a holiday story for Dreamspinner Press’s wonderful annual Advent Calendar of stories. I thought something short, you know? A second chance at love story. A story that would integrate my love of dishes of every sort, most notably holiday dishes, as a theme/backdrop for the romance that would ensue. Oh, how dishes transform a room! I decided I would aim at the lower end of the word count necessary. Not go overboard. After all, I was just dipping my toes back in the water!
But that’s not what happened. That isn’t what happens when I write! Aaargh! LOL!
No, off it went and once more I would up having to cut a bunch of my ideas and cast them to the cutting room floor. The story came in well at the “longest a story can be” and thank goodness, of I don’t know how many submissions Dreamspinner got, they chose mine to be included! Amongst a heck of a lot of wonderful authors and stories! The Advent package never fails to please.
Writing this story, Setting for Eight, Dinner for Two, was so much fun and I fell in love with my guys and I hope you will too. But what thrilled me even more is that this story opened the floodgates! Whatever was keeping the stories from coming—whether it was the wonderful romance in my life, how busy things were, health issues, etc—had suddenly popped free like a cork and the ideas have rushed out and swirled around me and swept me off. I can’t keep up!
I’m a good halfway through my new novel and if weren’t for vacations and such, it would probably be done already. I don’t want to say too much, I’ll hint at that in the future, but I think it has the potential to be every bit as good and fulfilling and pleasing as my best seller, The Boy Who Came in from the Cold! Once more I’ve fallen madly in love with my couple and I really think you will too.
And that’s the state of the BG Thomas world right now, friends and readers and fellow writers! It’s truly awesome. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Namasté,
BG “Ben” Thomas
About BG Thomas
B.G. Thomas lives in Kansas City with his two husbands—which yes, is different, but amazingly rewarding and wonderfully romantic. They have two sweet rescue dogs named Oliver (who the breed name Dorkie applies perfectly) and Frodo (who is just learning to be a dog). He is missing his soul dog Sarah Jane very much, but she will live on forever in several of his books and in his heart. He is also blessed to have a lovely daughter and they love to hang out.
B.G. loves to read romance, comedy, fantasy, thrillers, mystery, science fiction, and even horror—as far as he is concerned, as long as the stories are character driven and entertaining, it doesn’t matter the genre. He has gone to literature conventions his entire adult life where he’s been lucky enough to meet many of his favorite writers. He has made up stories since he was a child; it’s where he finds his joy.
In the nineties, he wrote for gay adult magazines but stopped because the editors wanted all sex without plot, and edited his set ups right out. “The sex is never as important as the characters,” he says. “Who cares what they are doing if we don’t care about them?” Excited about the growing male/male romance market—where set up and cute meets is where it’s at—he began writing again. He submitted a novella and was thrilled when it was accepted in four days. Since then the romantic tales have poured out of him. “It’s like I’m somehow making up for a lifetime’s worth of story-telling!”
In 2015 he made and entry every day in his blog “365 Days of Silver,” where he found something every day to be grateful for. You can find it right here:

“Leap, and the net will appear” is his personal philosophy and his message. “It is never too late,” he testifies. “Pursue your dreams. They will come true!”
