When the world labels a man and judges them blindly, is it possible to ever find love?
Firefighter Eric is on the front line, battling the threat of nature’s destruction in the California grasslands alongside his CalFire team. Focused and calm, even in the direst of situations, he has a strong affection for his fire truck, loves his career, and has best friends he can rely on. All he needs now is love, but that seems to be impossible to find. At his friend’s wedding. Eric falls in lust at first sight with the shy, slim and sexy Brady, even if Brady isn’t the type of guy he usually goes for. What Eric longs for is an equal in his bed, not a smaller guy who might want Eric to role-play big strong firefighter every time they have sex. He wants to find someone he can be vulnerable with, someone who will love him for his soft heart and quiet ways.
Brady’s life plans grind to a halt when his niece and nephew lose their parents in a tragic accident, and he becomes a dad overnight. His Developmental Coordination Disorder rules his life, but he fights both DCD and the fears that chase him every day, to give Maddie and Lucas a home. Agreeing to go to a friend’s wedding is a decision he regrets long before he even gets there. But, he refuses to give in to his fear, even if he might do something that makes him a target for people’s comments and laughter. Meeting Eric, a huge man with a gentle voice and a flair for chivalry, he falls hard. Now, if only he can let himself get past his panic that Eric would never want someone like him, then maybe he could fall in love for real.
REVIEW:
I was so happy at the end of book one when I saw Eric was interested in Brady. Of course, it’s because he was asked to keep an eye out for him by Ash but still. Eric took an immediate interest and when he met eyes with Brady, so did Brady. But Ash didn’t know the full extent of why Brady had a hard time being places, so when he found out he was asked to be watched over, it didn’t go over well.
But I have to hand it to Eric. He didn’t give up. Especially after Brady waylaid him with a kiss at the wedding. One that beyond curled his toes. Hell, if he would have moved wrong, he’d be ruining his wedding pants. But after that Brady kept shutting him down. And Eric couldn’t get him out of his mind. Desperate to find any way to find him, he even went so far as to try to log on to the single dads support group page, but was busted. Eventually he interrupted, Ash and Sean’s honeymoon to find out info. Showing up at Brady’s house was hard on Brady at first, but something took over his brain and he was back at climbing Eric like a tree and they were going at it. He was mortified when he had time to think but Eric wasn’t letting him think. He wanted to move forward. He knew it would be hard. For both of them. With Brady’s disability and Eric’s job, those alone were hard. But having Brady’s sister’s kids was another thing. Fortunately, Eric loved kids and so did his parents. But an injury on the job for Eric, put everything into perspective for Brady. He had to make a decision. Tell this man he loved him and let go or hold himself back in fear and possibly lose what they have.
I absolutely love both of these men. I knew with Brady, from book 1, about his dyslexia, but he never went into detail about anything more. Always changed the subject or put off answering. But from the moment Ash started talking to him, I knew he was special. And he is. Not because of his disabilities, but in spite of them. He’s a strong man with a heart of gold, even when he doesn’t think so. And he’s gifted. Plus, he brings a light in Eric’s eyes that no one else has ever put there.
Which has been hard on Eric. Eric is bisexual so he’s been with both. And either gender is scared of him because of his size (he’s tall as hell and just as wide) or because he’s a firefighter and the morons have some kind of fetish. Either way, it’s left him a little early. But he’s still holding out for the one. And he thinks he’s just found him. He’s so good for Brady. He brings Brady out of his shell and way out of his comfort zone, but he’s always there with him to support and hold him up. He uplifts Brady daily and reminds him how strong he really is.
These two are perfect for each other and I was so happy to see these two get together. And with what I saw for the intro to the next book, I’m definitely interested to see where this one is going to go.
