PUBLISHER: Evernight Publishing
LENGTH: 106 Pages
RELEASE DATE: May 14, 2019
BLURB:
Asmund knows he’s put off marriage too long. With his two closest friends happily mated to members of the wolf pack, he allows himself to be talked into hosting a ball to find himself a wife. He’s spent too many years waiting for the perfect person to simply fall into his lap.
But just days before the ball, a wolf shifter with a hint of ancient fae blood messes up all his plans. Vadik says the king is his mate, and Asmund knows that shifters are never wrong. But Asmund needs heirs, which the Beta wolf can’t give him, so he knows he must stay strong and convince Vadik to walk away, despite their attraction. The hardest part proves to be convincing himself that this man, who seems to fulfill every fantasy he’s ever had, isn’t right for him.
REVIEW:
Asmund knows that he needs to settle down and think about heirs for his court. But he’s never met anyone who captures his attention…until he meets Vadik.
The wolf shifter keeps insisting that Asmund is his mate and while it certainly feels like something that could be true, Asmund has a hard time believing it could be that easy.
I liked this story. The author does a good job of world building and I liked the interesting characters she brings to life. I think I might have enjoyed it a little more if I had read the first two books in the series. I have a feeling I will go looking for them because I would like to know more about Asmund and Vadik’s friends, who’s stories have already been told.
It’s not a long story, but it’s pretty complete. I would have liked to have seen the anticipation drawn out a little more though. Asmund is a strong and stubborn man, and I feel like Vadik would have had to work a little harder than he did to convince Asmund of the truth.
I love a good fantasy however and this kept me reading with no problem. It’s not mind-blowing or spectacular in any way, but it’s well-paced and has an excellent premise and if you like your stories a little less angsty this is definitely for you.
Personally, I’m an angst whore and so I feel like it could have used a little more uncertainty and doubt before falling into the HEA that it so thoroughly deserves.
I did enjoy how much Vadik is sure that Asmund is his but stands back to let the other man figure it out for himself. Consent his sexy, even with fated mates.
All in all, it was an enjoyable way to spend an hour and it has inspired me to look into more of this author’s work.
