BLURB:
Founded over four hundred years ago, Sanctus Infinitus Redemptio is a private and very elite society where dominance and submission are revered. Steeped in tradition and excellence, every Dominant and every submissive, and their pairing, are selected with great care.
When Hunter Vargo is brought into the Sanctus, his need for strict dominance sees him paired with the wrong Master. But only a short time later, mistreated and his trust broken, he’s recalled, his collar removed. The Grand Master knows it will take a special kind of Dominant to restore the sub’s faith and trust.
Sig Bruckner’s world is perfect. He has a great job, he has high standing within the Sanctus, and he has Levin, the very best submissive. When he’s asked to take on a second sub, a young man with issues and a rule not to touch him, Sig’s world is turned upside down.
When his dominance, his patience, and self-control are tested, and when Sig’s relationships with both subs are pushed past his limits, everything begins to unravel. Yet Sig knows every good Dom learns from their subs, and he’s no exception. He might not be able to fix everything on his own, but perhaps the three of them together can.

This was an interesting story that intrigued me right from the blurb. It’s a bit of a contradiction in that it’s labeled as lite BDSM, yet it’s about a secret ancient society where many of the members live the lifestyle 24/7 which sounds a little heavier to me than lite. However, while there is talk of whips, heavier play, etc., there are only a few actual scenes involving the main characters, all of which are on the lite side or don’t go into very much detail. The sex scenes take place in the playroom, and they are well done and steamy with a good amount of dirty talk. So, if you are looking to dabble into the BDSM world, I think this would be a great place to start.
So, the reasons this story played out on the lite side center around Hunter, the abused sub who is taken from his incompetent dom by the top members of the Sanctus and placed in the care of dom, Sig, and his sub, Levin, for a one-week trial period, at the end of which, Hunter can decide if he stays or goes. Sig is a doctor, a healer who and dom who gets pleasure from his sub’s pleasure. In other words, perfect fit for someone with Hunter’s issues. Sig has strict orders to not touch Hunter during their trial which does end up causing more problems than not. But, Sig and Levin’s roles are to re-establish Hunter’s trust while remaining impartial and uninfluential in his decision making. I would have liked a bit more detail about Hunter’s background. His childhood (which sounded horrendous) is touched on, though not much detail is given to explain it, and while we are told about his time with the abusive dom, but again, I didn’t get a good feel for how Hunter ended up.
I really enjoyed seeing this type of a BDSM relationship – no pain for the sake of giving pain, no subs craving pain above all else, etc. It was refreshing and felt like exactly what Hunter needed to heal and be able to settle back into his role as sub. For those who are a bit pickier about their BDSM stories, which I have found in myself lately, it may seem a bit too stilted at times. There is a lot of “proper talk” and a lot of overly considerate and praising, etc. that made it feel unrealistic to me. You also have to suspend your belief a bit to believe in an ancient secret society that lives self-sufficiently with very few outsiders who have no clue they exist. Hard to believe people are that oblivious to seeing numerous pairings of men with one to two younger boys at their heels, but hey, it doesn’t sound like such a bad place to be! I know many doms will experience things themselves before doing them to their subs, but here, the doms start out as subs and seem to switch back and forth pretty easily which kind of threw me off a bit.
Overall, I really liked the characters and the idea of this story. Sig was wonderful, and it was easy to see his love for Levin and then Hunter. Same with Levin – he was amazing and selfless, accepting Hunter into their relationship with ease and understanding, taking his new role as first sub seriously and taking Hunter under his wing as well. Hunter and Levin were very different and each brought something else to the table to keep Sig on his toes. In addition to the abuse, Hunter led a pretty sheltered life, and I loved seeing him grow and shine in his new environment, and both Sig and Levin played crucial parts in making that possible. You really can’t go wrong with an N.R. Walker book, in whichever genre she chooses to dabble, and this was another enjoyable one to add to that list.

I absolutely loved this book!
It is not a typical BDSM novel – far from that even – but it touched me and had me completely involved in the characters to the point that I didn’t want to stop reading because I wanted to see what would happen.
I wasn’t supposed to review this book but I absolutely fell hard for it so I wanted to leave a short additional review. 🙂
I loved Sig and both men, the attention, the tenderness yet forcefullness and the lite BDSM made it for me so very enjoyable.
Mostly for me the characters made the story, and I really hope we get to come back to this Sanctus because there are definitely more stories to explore there!
The wonderful sweet response from Levin towards Hunter, the immidiate connection between those two subs, the lack of jealousy, and of course, also the moments with Sig, the sense of love you feel going through the book – I loved it!
Especially the way author N.R Walker made sure her unique style was definitely present in this story was something I very much enjoyed.
This isn’t a perfect story as there were some things that I would have liked to see different but the way it grabbed me completely, which is very rare lately, makes me feel very secure in giving it 5 hearts.
Kudo’s for daring to step out of your box Miss Walker, I would very mich like to read more!
