Something’s waiting for Eli. Somebody’s watching his every move…
Eli is used to looking after himself. Single for longer than he’d care to admit, he doesn’t need a man for more than a hookup, not when he’s got his loyal dog, Zeus, by his side.
But one night changes the course of his life. He meets Dominic, an actual copper and not the stripper he thought his best friend had hired for his birthday. Unfortunately for Eli, after his night out celebrating, a gift awaits him at home—but not a pleasant one.
His birthday may be over, but the threats keep coming. Keep escalating. Keep hurting those close to him. Just how far will the monster behind them go? And how much will Eli lose before he can stop them?
Story Contains M/M sexual content and is intended for a mature audience. Please check the trigger warning in the front matter.
REVIEW:
Eli is a sweetheart who’s decided that romance isn’t for him. He has his loyal pup and his friends and a plan for the future, what more could he want?
Dominic falls for Eli quickly, drawn in by his sweet nature and dedication to helping animals in need. When it looks like Eli is in danger, he doesn’t hesitate to step up and help.
I liked this story. It’s sweet in parts and the author does a good job of showing Eli’s struggle with himself, and how he’s trying to let go of past hurts to move on with his life.
The storyline is pretty basic and there were no real surprises there. I didn’t get swept away by the story, but I did read it eager to the end because even though I knew how it would end, I was enjoying the ride anyway.
I wasn’t sure if I liked Eli’s friends or not, but his mom was sweet and Dominic’s family made me laugh, because I could totally see the family dynamics at work there and boy is that familiar.
If animals being hurt is a trigger for you, then this story might bother you a bit, but all the actual violence takes place “off page” and as the reader we are only left to deal with the aftermath.
The author sets a good pace in this story and I liked that it didn’t get bogged down in too much detail or side trips that can sometimes happen in a thriller. Building anticipation is one thing, but too much dragging your feet just makes a reader impatient and not in a good way.
The chemistry between the main characters was great and the sex was steamy without being overwhelming. I like it when the characters actually talk to each other to work things out instead of trying to fix everything in bed.
All in all, the story is enjoyable. It’s not spectacular, as I said, it’s a little predictable, but if you like a “who-dun-it” with a side of sweet men and adorable animals, then this book will be for you.

Thank you for including the warning about pets being harmed. Even off page that is a bad trigger for me.
