Shaman’s Law: Book One
When an international case involving a series of ritual murders lands in his lap, strait-laced and logical Agent Leon Armstrong is going to need some help.
Leon follows the trail to the opal-mining town of Coober Pedy, Australia, where he gets tangled up with the wild Russian mystic Sergei Menshikov. Despite his commitment to rationality, Leon discovers he isn’t immune to the way of the spirits, no matter how much he’d like to think so. When Sergei tells him he treads a predestined path, Leon’s world turns upside down.
Leon’s experiences in Coober Pedy will change his life forever, but can he hold out against Sergei and the spirits—who Sergei claims have chosen them for each other?
REVIEW:
I’m very rapidly becoming a huge fan of A. Nybo. The last few books I’ve read of theirs have been absolutely amazing and this one is no different. You enter into a world of spiritualism that take you on a journey with many different gods. It’s always fascinating to me to see the way other people believe and how they interpret things and such. And of course, tie in a murder mystery with all of it and you come up wit one hell of a book.
Sergei has pretty much been running from his heritage since his father’s murder 14 years ago. The spirits have not been happy with him denying his role as a shaman either and they let it be known. Now, he’s having dreams of a man with a silver patch in his hair who is basically his. But he has no idea who it is. When murders start happening around him, he thinks not too much of it, until he learns about the murders themselves. The details, the things around the bodies, under them, and what was done to them. When it hits close to home for him, he meets his man and he’s a federal police man with not a very open mind. But in order to fight what’s going on, Sergei has to show Leon, not all things are battled on the physical plane. Especially when the murderer comes for him and explains why he’s come for him. Sergei barely survives it and now he knows what he has to do to take this killer down. But he needs Leon and without Leon understanding, they may not survive this.
It’s hard for people when you’ve been raised to believe a certain way to be open minded to other things. I totally get it. I was raised Christian, so it’s hard to wrap my head around other beliefs even to this day. Now, I don’t judge others for them and quite frankly, I’m often fascinated by them because of the history that ties into it. So I can imagine how Leon felt when Sergei was trying to explain everything to him. And get him to understand this battle would be on more than one dimension. It took Leon experiencing something to sort of get what was going on. And then it was scary as hell because…whoa.
It was just as hard on Sergei though. He finally had to face that he had to step into his role as a shaman. And when he found out who the killer was, he had to accept his role in things. Revenge has a way of constantly circling around and around until finally someone says enough and ends it all for good.
His was an awesome murder mystery. I think you guys will love it? I know I did. And can not wait to see more from A.Nybo.
