REVIEW:
I loved the first book in this series but this one lost some of the magic for me. Not that I disliked this story, but it was the world that the author created that made the first book so special, and this sequel was predominantly set in our regular world.
Our main characters here are Adam, a movie star, and Dylan and Simon, fated lifemates who all originate from the “hidden world” that is introduced in the first book. This matriarchal society of somewhat magical people, who are descendants of aliens, coexist alongside humans though they have their own island nation off the coast of Africa. That sounds complicated right? But it was actually interesting to discover and very well done by the author. However, to really understand how that society works you need to start this series with the first book. Only a few scattered scenes in Adam are set on the island and those don’t really go into the way the society functions.
The plot was over the top and filled with drama and twists, but as I’ve said in previous reviews, I expect that from this author and look forward to it. I was a little uncertain of the dynamics of the threesome to begin with, actually I was a little confused about Simon and Dylan’s relationship, and I think that delayed my getting into the story. I loved the characters individually, the dynamics between them all took some warming up to. In the beginning it often felt like Dylan was in two separate relationships with Simon and Adam, rather than all three of them immediately coming together.
While I don’t have anything bad to say about this book, there was nothing that overly excited me about it either. I really hope that if this series continues the author chooses to spend more time back on the island with some of the characters from the original story.
