An agent for the Bureau of Trans-Species Affairs? That’s the best job in the world. And it’s enough for Terry Brandt, who doesn’t need personal relationships complicating his life. His newest assignment puts him undercover, investigating a Hollywood agent who may have some evil tricks up his sleeve.
Edge is not the man he appears to be. Although he’s a member of the Hollywood agent’s security staff, his true situation is darker and deeper than that. Ordered to seduce the new prospect, Edge finds himself caught in conflicting loyalties.
Haunted by their pasts and tied up in secrets, neither Terry nor Edge can afford to allow passion to interfere with duty. And with danger dogging them, it’s impossible to envision a future together.
REVIEW:
This is my first time reading a book in this series, and I didn’t have any trouble following along, so it can easily be read as a stand alone. However, it did make me want to go back and read the others. I love paranormal stories that venture from the every day stories we have been used to. Here, we have canine shifters. Edge is one of three dogs Bureau agent Terry encounters on his undercover mission to get to the bottom of the shady dealings the Bureau believes Edge’s boss is involved in.
Terry hopes to become the client of Edge’s boss who is known for turning people into Hollywood stars. But there is much more to the story there, as Terry learns and almost becomes victim to. It is during the probationary period where he is being vetted that Terry meets Edge, the one tasked with keeping an eye on Terry.
Edge is one of three security dogs. They were bought as pups and trained to obey and see to whatever needs their boss deems fit. Unfortunately, Edge is the pup who takes the brunt of the boss’ anger, aggression, etc. by way of beatings and horrible treatment. As miserable as he is, his upbringing keeps him loyal and resigned to his position. It isn’t until he is pushed to give himself to Terry that he begins to see or think anything else.
I loved the idea of this story where the dogs were concerned. Admittedly, the other aspect didn’t really grab me, but it doesn’t take long for that to work itself out leaving the dog issue remaining. I loved seeing the pups find a better life and found it very satisfying to see the offer made to Terry and Edge. Along that same path, I’m really looking forward to the next installment where the guys take on the dog breeding case. That interesting storyline caught my attention, carried through, and has me excited for more. Recommend you pick this up if you enjoy something a bit different in your shifter stories.
