BLURB:
Philip lives alone with his dog Barnabas, miles from the nearest mountain town. Late one evening, while he and Barnabas are out running, they are attacked by a very handsome male. Philip shoots him, immediately regrets it, and brings him home to deal with his wounds. Soon he realizes there is something very different about the man, beginning with the fact he is unable to speak or understand English.
Adam is different. Other than recalling his name, Ád-hamh, he has no memories, including why he ended up naked in a cave high in the mountains above Philip’s house. He survived on the blood of animals he kills, until the night Philip finds him and brings him home.
Slowly, Philip teaches Adam about his new life. In the process, he discovers things about Adam that will change both their lives forever.
REVIEW:
I really quite enjoyed this book. It’s got a paranormal/sci-fi thing going on and it’s interesting.
Adam (his name is spelled differently but I can’t spell it right on a computer lol, plus no one can pronounce his real name right), woke up in a strange place not really knowing anything. His instincts told him he needed blood and raw meat to survive, but he didn’t know much else. The more he tried to figure it out, the harder it was. He broke into a house because he was hungry, but nothing there was what he needed. Ellen, who is Phillip’s best friend, couldn’t understand why someone would break in her house and run a finger through her food but not take anything. Phillip thought it strange too, until his house was broken into and clothes were taken. He reported it, but wasn’t believed so he was aggravated. To chill his anger, he went for a run with his dog. When Barnabas started growling, they went to discover what was up. And found Adam. Little by little, Phillip taught Adam the ways of the world, even meeting some that were a bit like him. But when Adam started having nightmares, he knew his memories were returning, and eventually they became a reality. He was being hunted. And when they found him, everyone did all they could to save him. But would it be enough?
Imagine waking up in a world, not knowing who you are, where you come from, or anything around you? I can’t imagine. And then I think of people with amnesia and it’s a scary thought. Poor Adam. He was trying to find his way. He didn’t know what to do, he just followed his instincts. Thankfully, his instincts to break into someone’s house, were the right people to do so or who knows what could have happened to him. Phillip was very understanding as he learned what was going on, and so was Ellen. Although, if I had to venture a guess, I think Ellen may have a little witch or something in her. But of course, she’s known as human. But she’s a little too insightful sometimes. Thankfully, they helped him learn about who he was and what he could do. To a point and with some help from a few others. But with his memories gone, he still wasn’t sure of everything. But was learning. And was happy he had found someone who cared enough to help him.
It’s an interesting book to me. Give it a shot and see what you think.
