REVIEW:
Holy shitaki! You guys need to read this book. Damn. This thing is loaded with fae, vamps, witches and with it comes murders, spells, rituals and all kinds of goodies that go with paranormal stuff. It’s a mystery but almost a thriller at the same time because, let me tell you, there is some betrayals and behind the scenes action going on that is like…holy hell. This book is so good.
Holden is used to being called all kinds of derogatory names and left out of everything. Being a half breed, he’s basically considered lower than the shit on your shoes in rankings. So when he’s called in to help a case, all eyes are on him and not in a good way. But he does his best anyway. But these new murders are leaving him stumped. And he’s getting even more backlash because he can’t figure it completely out. What no one is realizing, Holden is doing his job quite well. He’s just been overpowered in these cases. The killer is one powerful witch. When Val, the highest rank witch of his coven is sent to help, Holden is in awe and lust, but scared at the same time. This man is powerful, and just insulted him at a crime scene. Val eventually apologizes and they work together to figure out who the killer is. After one passionate night between them, they find the killer. Or rather the killer turns himself in and it throws the world in shock. But Holden can’t believe it. It can’t be true. But because of his involvement in the case, he’s shunned more and has decided to pack it up and leave for somewhere else. When he’s called back in because more murders are occuring, he knew he was right to begin with. And it’s time to figure this out. Once they figure a few things out, they go in search only to be met by the killers, bent on destroying them. They make it out this time, but once the final search is wound down, this time it’s for real life or death. And death it may be.
I felt for Holden from page one in this book. Being a hybrid or half-breed, he’s called every name in the book, because heavens forbid he’s different and not full blooded. Once again, prejudices and hatred and old stupidity weaves its way in, and despite the good job Holden does, it doesn’t matter. No one will respect him or anything. And his asshole father doesn’t help matters any. He’s so hateful toward Holden, all because Holden isn’t the perfect son.
But then I had to feel for Val as well. He was in hell just as much. Being heir and coven leader, he’s expected to always be a certain way. No matter how good he was at his magics and things, for his father, it was never enough.
Unfortunately, we eventually find out why. And it’s a doozy. The lengths these killers are going for what they are after are insane. But it makes for a hell of a story. I’m so serious you guys need to read this. It is so damn good. A murder mystery with paras. Such fun!
