BLURB: Fate can be written in a tea bag too.
Mark Johnson is hitting his forties and is stuck in a rut.
He’s had the same boring office job for ten years, with no motivation or inclination to change it. The same crumbling house for ten years, with no cash or know-how to fix it. And the same Facebook status for five years—it’s complicated. It isn’t. He’s single. He just doesn’t want to correct it. That would be admitting defeat.
The day a tea bag splats onto his face whilst he’s emptying the dregs of his morning cuppa at Macy’s Tea Shoppe is the one that makes him question each of his current life choices…the tea bag and that the shop is currently being run by one rather friendly, rather hunky, but rather young Australian named Bradley Summers.
Tea has never tasted so good.
REVIEW:
Mark Johnson feels like his life is as boring as his job. His house is falling apart and the only luck he seems to have is bad luck. Then his BFF Macy goes on a cruise and leaves her cousin from Australia in charge. And oh boy, is he in charge. He’s an “Australian Adonis” to Mark’s eyes and Mark cannot for the life of him understand why Brad would want to have anything to do with a dried up old man like him – while for the record he isn’t even 40 yet!
Brad continues to push his case, much to Mark’s chagrin and we learn about the past disappointments of both men. Brad’s grandmother has put some ideas into his head – some of which have not led to the best of circumstances, but nonetheless, he thinks that Mark is a good idea. Mark, however, has to be persuaded. Damian, Mark’s old friend and Macy are both encouraging, but Mark is afraid of being hurt. But is this really a chance worth taking? You’ll have to read to find out 😉
I really enjoyed this sort of quirky, very British, opposites attract story. Brad and Mark are both very sweet characters. Mark has sort of given up on things and Brad has spent time looking for love in the wrong places. They both need a little help and direction and they find it in each other. Both have been hurt in the past or were taken advantage of, so there is a genuine reason for reluctance. Mark really is a hoot though with his inner verbal dialogue that provides a great deal of comic relief. In addition, the supporting cast of Macy, Damian and even Mark’s proper, yet over-sharing mother keep the plot moving as well. I was a little skeptical of Mark not being up on 21st century tech and slang (heck, I’m almost 57 and I know this stuff), but it didn’t detract from the story at all. This is the first book I’ve read by C.F. White, but I look forward to more.
