Being an identical twin doesn’t come without issues.
No one can tell us apart, not even our parents sometimes. We don’t usually use that to our advantage, but it comes in handy when my brother needs help breaking up with his boyfriends—which happens more than I’d care to admit. I know it’s enabling him, but I can’t say no to Anders. I will do anything for my twin. The breakups always go the same; they’re swift and simple.
Until Reed.
He’s everything I’ve fantasised about but never allowed myself to have. When I give in to temptation and begin to freak out, it’s not because he’s a guy. It’s because he thinks I’m my brother, and I can’t bring myself to tell him the truth.
**Unwritten Law is a 52,000 word stand alone with a HFN/HEA guarantee and no cliffhanger. It contains a mistaken identity trope. Please check trigger warnings in the front matter.**
REVIEW:
There are some triggers in this one. Big time. Attempted murder, homophobia, child abuse, abuse, possessiveness, etc.
This is a good book, but it’s a hard read. These twins have been through a lot and are still going through it. One from triggers, one from guilt. But the bond and love they share keeps them going. Even if what’s troubling both of them seems to be like the elephant in the room no one wants to discuss.
Law is used to breaking it off with Anders dates. Anders has a hard time with confrontation since things from his past. But this blind date he’s supposed to break it off with, he wants to get to know personally. Know one knows he’s bi. Since Anders is gay, he let that be his thing. With being identical twins, they wanted to be seen differently and did all they could to be different. But this blind date, Reed, makes Law want to confess everything. But he has to pretend to be Anders. When things turn hot and heavy, he wants to tell Reed the truth but his libido gets in the way. And keeps doing so until one day, they are caught together by Reed. And the truth comes tumbling out. With Reed getting over one lying ex not much longer ago, this is unforgivable for him. And Law may have just lost the one person he’s really ever loved.
I’ve always heard some twins play tricks on people for fun. But when it comes to relationships, it’s dangerous. And wrong. Too many feelings are involved and people often get hurt. I felt for Law. I know he’s trying to help and protect his brother, but he’s enabling and he knows it. The therapists have said so themselves. But the guilt Law feels outweighs it. And I hate it for him. Especially once he gets involved with Reed.
But then I hurt for Anders too. What he went through is not something you get over. He’s terrified of getting close again and just basically uses the guys he’s with. Which never goes over well.
The only good thing as far as all the lying with Reed, is it was a wake up call for both twins. It’s never an easy road to even try to get through, but they both are trying. And after seeing Anders find interest in someone that’s more his type again, maybe there is hope. I’m ready to find out in book 2.
