When Vail Sommerlin inherited a house from an estranged uncle in Cedar Falls, he jumped at the chance to move away from his nosy mother, who he loved too much to tell her to butt out of his life. He just never dreamed that new life would include finding the man of his dreams.
When Lakota White first laid eyes on Vail Sommerlin, he knew he’d found his soulmate. He was pretty sure his grandmother was laughing her ass off if she was looking down at him right then. Probably even shouting, “I told you so,” over and over again.
Warning: an attempted suicide and a corrupt mayor who is bent on destroying the town once more instigates the zany characters of Cedar Falls to band around the two and help in their own unique way.
REVIEW:
Please read the warning. Trigger. Attempted suicide.
I love books with second chances and this was a big one. Vail was finally getting the chance to get away from his mother and Aunt. Not that he didn’t love them, but well, after a certain incident, it was time to go. His Uncle Calhoun left him a beautiful home in Cedar Falls and Vail snatched his cousin Macon and they made for a new life. But it’s not been all sunshine and roses. Macon is dealing with something since his breakup with his married lover and taking it out on Vail and Vail’s new beauty, Lakota. When they discover Macon almost dead, it changed things quickly. Vail realized he not only had support in his friends in town but in Lakota. He finally didn’t have to be the strong one all the time. Now if he could overcome the guilt he felt and be the help Macon needs. Because he wants Macon home with him and Lakota.
There’s one section in this book, that would have mortified the hell out of me, but reading I laughed so hard I cried. I don’t blame Vail wanting to get away from his mother. She walked in on him having sex and just starting talking to him like normal. Oh my gosh. No. Just no. Poor guy. What I love about Vail even more, is he gets Jesse. Jesse’s ideas are a little out there for him, but he has so much fun with him. He gets him and that makes me so happy. They just clicked into place. Especially when laying eyes on Lakota.
Love at first sight. Lakota impressed me. He was so patient with Mason as nasty as Mason would get. But he impressed me too because he embraced his roots. The mayor and douchecanoe Betty Sue are up to no good as usual and it’s about time someone stood up even more. And remind the mayor what really happened. And Lakota made sure the Tribes got what they deserved.
It’s a good book. There are some errors that need to be fixed if possible. Mostly wrong names but it’s still a good book. I’m really loving this series.
