Do you believe in love at first sight?
Sanford Stewart sure doesn’t. In fact, he pretty much believes in the exact opposite, thanks to the Homo Jock King. It seems Darren Mayne lives for nothing more than to create chaos in Sandy’s perfectly ordered life, just for the hell of it. Sandy despises him, and nothing will ever change his mind.
Or so he tells himself.
It’s not until the owner of Jack It – the club where Sandy performs as drag queen Helena Handbasket – comes to him with a desperate proposition that Sandy realizes he might have to put his feelings about Darren aside. Because Jack It will close unless someone can convince Andrew Taylor, the mayor of Tucson, to keep it open.
Someone like Darren, the mayor’s illegitimate son.
The foolproof plan is this: seduce Darren, and push him to convince his father to renew Jack It’s contract with the city.
Simple, right?
RETRO REVIEW:
This book was pure TJ Klune; with outrageous characters, over the top humour and kind of lacking any semblance of seriousness. And it was pure awesomeness and had me smiling and laughing throughout. Then by adding the fabulous Michael Lesley to the mix made this audiobook out of this world. I mean talk about performing a book and captivating your audience! He was made for this book – he was made to narrate all Klune books as they’re just the perfect fit. There was not a single second that I was not entertained – and that’s a feat in itself seeing as the book is 17 hours long (or well a bit shorter since I always speed my audios up). In short – I’ve had a great day listening to this book.

REVIEW:
Who doesn’t like an enemies to lovers story? Well, many people, but I certainly like them! The Queen and the Homo Jock King is definitely such a book.
Sandy Stewart cannot stand Darren Maynes. It seems like everything Sanford does, Darren is right there causing havoc in his life. And, it irritates the living daylights out of Sandy aka Helena Handbasket, the premier queen performer at a nightclub named Jack It. A nightclub that is set to be closed down imminently, unless someone can convince mayor Andrew Taylor to keep it open. So, the owner of Jack It begs Sandy for help.
Queue Darren Maynes aka Sandy’s archenemy. Also, Darren just so happens to be the mayor’s illegitimate son. Dun dun duuuunnnnn! So, the plan? To suck it up (har dee har), and put his irritation with Darren behind Sandy and seduce said archenemy in hopes that he can convince his so called father to keep Jack It from the proverbial chopping block.
Well, things don’t necessarily go exactly as they wanted. In fact, the quote “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” comes to mind when it comes to Sandy’s plan. How do they go awry? Can Sandy save the nightclub? As the blurb and even I alluded to, Sandy and Darren get together. But how do they? As River Song from Doctor Who likes to say, “Spoilers!” Make sure to get the book and find out for yourself!
The Queen and the Homo Jock King was a very funny enemies to lovers story that I found quite enjoyable, after putting down the audio version and reading the actual book. Altho Michael Lesley is very talented, I am afraid his narrations are not for me. Now, this is simply my personal opinion. Much like even tho many people like peanut butter, I do not. Michael, you are extremely talented, and I commend you for putting yourself out there like you do. It is a rare few that can do what you do.
