REVIEW:
This book was kind of ….odd for me. I was definitely not expecting how it turned out. At all. But it was pretty good.
You’re getting the story of ‘Johnny’s’ life from his perspective. Things that happened to him and his best friend Jacob from the time they were like 3 or 4. Their growing up together, the splitting up because Johnny got in to a better one, and life after. Trying to fit into the real world. “Johnny” thinks things are finally starting to go well. He’s got a job with a paper, a boyfriend that wants him to move in, and a few friends. The only suspicion he has is his boyfriend won’t tell him where he works. It’s really bothering him and it leads to a fight. His boyfriend storms off and before you know it, someone is trying to kill ‘Johnny” by setting the condo on fire. Another attempt is made while he’s in police custody, a bomb being blown up and killing 2. But it’s not over and Johnny is trying to figure out who is trying to kill him before they succeed. And why his boyfriend would want to kill him.
This was a surprise story for sure! I was NOT expecting the murderer to be who he was. It is a flat out betrayal of every kind. And it made me feel bad for ‘Johnny’ (yes, that’s not his real name). I’m still shocked. I never saw it coming. But it’s a pretty good one. It almost reads like an autobiography kind of thing. The story of his life. The escapades. The schools. The sex. All of it. It kind of drags for me at a few times, but once action starts happening, you have to see what’s up
