Can a loyal and sensual owl shifter couple woo a human mate who’s convinced he’s an ugly duckling?

Orion falls in love with the kind custodian, but he must convince his long-term partner, Talon, that Dexter is just who they’ve been searching for to establish a permanent ménage. Even if they can gently break down Dexter’s walls, they’ll have to contend with a dangerous cult rising in the shifter community and a hidden enemy determined to keep Dexter from them.
REVIEW:
Oh I’m so excited about this book. I remember reading, or starting to read this series probably a year or so ago, and I was HOOKED! But I was so upset because I couldn’t afford to buy them at the time and my library only had like the first 6 or 7. So, I’ve been way behind on this series. When I picked this book to read, I was pretty sure it was a part of this series I’ve been wanting to finish, but I hadn’t had a chance to check. So, I am super duper excited to have gotten to read another book in this series. I don’t remember the characters names off the top of my head, but my favorite so far was the one with the blind shifter. I think it’s called The Hunter and the Hunted. I need to go look that up. Anyway, if you guys have not read this series, you are missing out!! I absolutely have adored it from book one and this book just made my week!!
Dexter is convinced he is unlovable and no one will ever look at him in adoration. Most people would consider him a ‘bear’ because of his size, but he’s not. And despite eating right and exercising, plus working a job where he’s on his feet all the time, you’d think he’d be a beanpole. But he can’t lose the weight. All the jeers and taunts and insults get to him so bad and now that he’s hit 40, it’s even worse. It doesn’t help that no matter what he does, he will never be good enough for his family. His brother takes the sole role there. After taking care of his landlord and friend real quick, he heads to his home behind hers. But on his way, he sees something land in the snow and wind in front of him. A little elf owl. Determined to save this little bird, he quickly takes him inside and warms and feeds him. What he doesn’t realize is his little owl is a shifter named Orion, and Orion thinks he’s just found his and his mate’s, Talon, other mate. Orion is quick to want to get to know him and bring him into the fold, but Talon knows they need to be slow and patient, because Dexter has been obviously hurt. And bad. Little by little, they gain his trust and admiration, but something is threatening all they hold dear. They know they have to let Dexter fully into their world or let him go. They definitely don’t want to let him go, but it may be too late.
Oh Dexter is just this giant of a man I want to hug for ever and ever. He just grabbed my heart from the get go. It’s hard when you don’t meet society’s standards of perfect. It doesn’t seem to matter how good of a person you are, if you aren’t a size freaking zero then you’re apparently no good. But Orion saw what Dexter really was from the beginning and I loved it! He wanted Dexter and to cuddle him like the love bug he knew Dexter would be. He brought things out in Dexter. Made him more open and fiercely protective when around others. Showed Dexter how to have fun.
Dexter changed Talon, too. Dexter softened Talon. Brought out a more affectionate side to him, so he didn’t always seem to have that ‘stick up his ass’. Lmao. And Talon showed Dexter how he could be loved and cared for, for who he is. He and Orion accepted every inch of Dexter and loved him fiercely. Something he always needed. Orion you can’t help but love because of his boisterous energy. It just affects you and you can’t help but laugh and smile.
I love these guys and now I’m going back to get the ones I’ve missed. I think it’s time to acquaint myself with everyone again. Makes me feel like I’ve missed being home.
