SYNOPSIS:
Justin Molina has secrets. He’s served his time but remains a prisoner of his past, unable to forgive himself for failing his family when they needed him most. Justin’s grief is overwhelming, but he keeps silent and focuses on his goals. About to graduate college, he tries to keep his head above water—no matter how many times life keeps knocking him down. When he’s forced to register for a poetry-writing class, Justin discovers putting words to his feelings might be exactly what his fractured heart needs to heal. Or is it the older professor with the bow ties and gentle smile who gives him a chance when no one else will?
Professor Foster Faraday Harding is a broken man. His divorce is final, and he’s reverted back to the safety of his books. Even his poetry no longer brings him joy; he’s sleepwalking through life. The raw emotion of Justin’s poetry awakens Foster to desires he thought long buried in the ashes of his marriage. When he discovers Justin is struggling financially, Foster offers him a solution that benefits both of them. Soon it’s Foster who’s struggling with emotions he can’t understand: Justin is his student. And a man. One crazy night years earlier doesn’t mean anything. Foster is straight.
After months of denying the growing attraction between them, an unexpected kiss changes everything. Justin and Foster are no longer only professor and student—they’ve become lovers, but the strain of hiding their relationship increases with each passing day. Words have the power not only to hurt but to heal the greatest pain. If Foster and Justin listen to what their hearts are saying, they might break through their silence and live their own love poems—together.

Two weeks later and I could barely remember what day it was. I was on autopilot: get up, go to classes, work at the library, the restaurant, then home where I worked until about one or two in the morning to do the work for the travel magazine. Fall into bed then get up and do it again. But the money was coming in and with my bank account healthy for once, I couldn’t complain. My mother’s day aide was working out and Earline also stayed with her to knit and keep her company.
I hurried into the restaurant, slipped on the black, button down uniform shirt and stowed my backpack away. The manger was a stickler for time and if I wasn’t on the floor cleaning tables, sweeping or helping the bartender, he’d dock me. I walked out to the dining room, snagging the water pitcher. There were only two customers and with a smile I approached them, only to see it was Professor Harding and the same guy I saw him with at the beginning of the semester at the bar. His date. Harding had been in by himself one or two times and we’d exchange greetings but nothing else.
He smiled broadly when he saw me. “Hello, Justin.”
“Hi, Professor.” I poured their waters and was about to walk away.
“This is my friend, Ross.” I stopped to listen, wondering why he was introducing me. “I told him how you saved me from embarrassment that night.”
My cheeks heated and I shrugged. “It was nothing.”
“Nothing?” Ross, the “friend’s” eyes danced with amusement. “I’ve known this guy since we were kids and I’ve never seen him drunk. I would’ve paid good money to see it.”
“Oh, you’re friends. I thought…” My voice dwindled and both Ross and Professor Harding’s brows shot up in surprise. Ross snorted with laughter.
“You thought we were together? Nah. That would be like kissing my brother. Blech.” Ross wiped his mouth and grabbed Professor Harding’s chin. “He is pretty cute, I’ll give him that.”
Professor Harding twisted away from Ross and made a face. “Cut it out.” He focused on me. “How are you liking the class, now that we’re concentrating more on the structure of poems rather than writing them?”
“Um, well it’s funny but I thought I’d be happy not writing them but I kind of liked it. I mean, I’m not criticizing because it’s important to learn form and know the different methods and everything, but are we going to go back to writing them?”
“Most definitely. After next week, you’ll take what you’ve learned and see if it’s changed how you look at writing your own poetry.”
“Ok, cool.”
I walked away then, aware that both men were staring at me. Why did everything this man say affect me? And why did it make me feel good, knowing that the two of them were friends and not lovers?”
