REVIEW:
This was another solid installment to this series. I loved that this took on a bit of a different direction than the previous books. Here, Daniel, the behind-the-scenes financial guru for Ward Security, finally decides to take a vacation. While there, he decides to throw a bit of caution to the wind and take a chance on a holiday hook-up with the sexy man hitting on him.
The chemistry is definitely on fire with Edward and Daniel, but it doesn’t take long before things heat up in another direction and they must work together, trust each other when the trust they share is now very fragile. Edward originally set out to find and eliminate a rogue agent – one who looks uncannily like Daniel. What ensues is a whirlwind of activity with Daniel being pulled in and having to put his long ago FBI training to use when he becomes the bait to lure out the other parties.
Daniel has never felt as though he really fits in with the Ward crew or that he has much to offer the team. After all, he isn’t a buff ex-special forces badass of some sort or another. He’s just a numbers guy. But, he helps figure out cases in addition to his normal boring number crunching. So, I think he felt as though he had a little something to prove with regard to his adventures with Edward. It was tough to get past the not knowing whether Edward was being truthful when his job has basically required him to do just the opposite. But, the chemistry plays out and expands past the bedroom without either of them really being able to do anything about it.
This was fun and exciting story where you weren’t quite sure how the couple could end up together given their respective circumstances, but I love watching it all play out and the pieces all fall into place. As always, it was great seeing some of the other Ward guys again, even though they don’t get much page time in this one. While this spinoff doesn’t pack quite the same punch for me as the Unbreakable Bonds series, it is still a highly enjoyable, well-written series that I look forward to continuing.
