Love never goes out of style.
Landry Bishop fled his tiny hometown and never looked back. Now his expertise in food, fashion, and décor has earned him all of Hollywood’s glittering perks. But with his husband deceased and his personal assistant retired, Landry has nobody to rely on—and no one to help him indulge his secret cravings.
Casual, plainspoken Jordan Stryker seems a dubious choice of a PA for someone as formal and self-controlled as Landry. Jordan’s questionable fashion sense and limited kitchen skills don’t exactly enhance his résumé. But as Landry soon realizes, Jordan has many attractive qualities too.
With a strong pull toward Jordan, new career opportunities on the horizon, and a persistent tug from family back home, Landry is in a quandary. He can advise others on how to make their lives special, but what should he do about his own?
REVIEW:
Landry Bishop is at a crossroads in his life. There’s tons of changes happening to him – his career is barreling forward, his personal assistant is leaving to care for elderly parents, he’s still recovering from the death of his husband, and he feels a pull back to his hometown, which he worked so hard to escape. On the advice of his soon to be leaving PA, Landry hires Jordan, who seems to be a diamond in the rough in his new job. He might not have the visible skills, but he offers a whole new perspective that helps Landry on his journey of self-discovery, and Jordan finds his own way.
Kim Fielding diverse writing always surprises me. She writes so many different stories, with so many different tones, all well written, but sometimes makes me pause to remember she’s the same author. This book is another notch in her excellent repertoire, albeit more from a lighter side, though we still feel the struggle. We get a sense of both Landry and Jordan as they go on an adventure to find themselves – Landry through the perspective of Jordan and Jordan through his new job that solidifies his skill set that had before left him wandering. Fielding has a wonderful way of letting us know each of the characters unique thoughts and actions, creating a platform for us to better understand them. Landry has this amusing stream of consciousness that floats around to much delight.
There are some fun Easter eggs back to the first book in the series, but this book can be read by itself without needing to have read the previous book in her series, though I highly recommend you do before this novel. Both stories are very different and that is what makes Fielding so refreshing, this diversity in characters, situations, and writing style, yet all in the same universe.
My only real critique is that the book is a tad short and I’d love to get to know better the characters in this fun universe.
