A happy ending worthy of a TV fantasy… in real life?
Ashland Wells is an actor of sci-fi cult fame but with little direction for the future, when handsome grad student Remy Beaumont lands in his lap at a fan convention. Remy is everything Ash ever wanted and wished he could be—including out and proud. For twelve hours they’re the best of friends. But the convention ends, and saying goodbye to Remy might be the biggest mistake Ash has ever made.
A few months later, they’re reunited on a new production—Ash as an actor, Remy a writer—and though Ash doesn’t plan to let him go twice, being with Remy means going public about being gay. He’s not sure that’s a risk he—or his career—can handle, no matter how great the temptation.
If only they could write themselves the romantic happily ever after they both need.
REVIEW:
These stories break my heart so much. For people who live in the limelight, they are scrutinized constantly, judged over everything, including a pimple, and can often have their careers destroyed for something. Like being gay. It makes me so angry. We are all human and I’m so tired of people being judged. Let folks be.
By the time Ash figured out he WAS gay, he was already starting his career in acting. He wanted to come out but a fellow actor and friend was basically blacklisted for being gay. So only certain people knew and that’s it. When he met Remy at a con, it was awkward but funny. But Ash was drawn to him. And terrified for it. Running into him again left him fearful again but something about Remy eased him a bit. They spent several days seeing the sights together until they had to leave. Ash tried so hard to ask for Remy’s number or email or something but couldn’t get his lungs or mouth to work. And Remy was gone. On the set of his new show, Ash was in the middle of a scene when he could have sworn he saw a familiar face. But surely not. But it was. Remy was done with school and working as a writer on set. They got to know each other more, basically were dating. Until the subject of coming out came up. There were no PDAs in public, they had to always be careful. And it was starting to get to Remy. He could deal with it until one of Ash’s closest friends came to visit and Ash didn’t explain who Remy was. No matter how good they were together, that was the icing on the cake. Remy wasn’t a dirty secret. Nor was he going to be. And Ash doesn’t know if he can come out.
This was a tough one. Knowing how I feel for most of the people in the limelight, not all because some eat that attention up, but for those who don’t want the attention, it sucks. So I got how Ash felt. With all the bigotry and hatred out there, and already losing a friend from it, he was afraid of career suicide. Who could blame him? The hard part is I get Remy, too. He knows he has to be careful at times, but he doesn’t hide who he is and can’t be a person that is hidden. It’s a sucky situation that sometimes love just can’t fix. If the ones in love can’t communicate and come to a compromise or something.
It’s a good book. There’s an HEA so don’t worry, but it can make you cry. Hope you all like it,
