Jazz has lived with unimaginable guilt his entire life. Why the gods had allowed him to even be born was something he struggled with every day. When he met a man who treated him as Jazz always knew he deserved, instead of telling anyone, he endured. What he didn’t expected was for the residents of Miracle to step in and save his life.
Wilder loved his job, especially now that the new Council didn’t use him to get rid of the shifters that didn’t agree with them. He imagined helping shifters around the world for years to come. But all of that changed when he met his mate, who has been terrorized by the man Wilder had been charged to bring before the Council for sentencing.
Jazz’s fear that no one, not even his mate, would ever really want him seemed to be coming true when Wilder told him he’d need to leave whenever the Council required him to do a job. Wilder’s job means everything to him, but having a mate may require changes he is not ready for.
Will the two find a compromise? Or will one of them have to give up everything for the other?
REVIEW:
I was dying to read Jazz’s book ever since he was beaten and left for dead two books ago. At the time all we knew of Jazz was that he thought no one liked him, thought he was good for nothing, and had reached the point where he could barely be bothered trying anymore.
Wilder has just arrived in Miracle to drop off a shifter for trial, the shifter who was responsible for Jazz’s abuse. Wilder has longed for a mate, but never imagines that the victim of the shifter he caught is his fated one.
I really enjoyed this book, as right from the start it served up some of my favourite aspects of this series. Firstly, many of the previous characters made appearances, so we got to see some old friends. Second, there is shifters battling it out with both claws and guns – I love a good action scene. I liked that the plot in A Grizzly’s Justice introduced a whole new bunch of ‘good guy’ shifters who live on a mysterious, highly defended island, just to add a bit of suspense. I hope we get to see more from those guys in the future.
But best of all, I absolutely adored Jazz. I like it when authors write shifter books with prey/predator mates, and I love it when the cute little prey animal turns into a kickass fighter. And that is exactly what the author wrote here. As much as I loved Jazz, he was kind of a broken man, stomped down by life. While Wilder did kinda ride in on his white horse and slay his dragons (all figuratively of course, no dragons were actually harmed in the writing of this book) in the end, Jazz was quite capable of fighting to save himself. He had just needed someone to show him he was worth the effort. I also appreciated that these two mates were excited to fid each other. I’ve never understood why someone would reject the mate that the fates decreed was perfect for them. But Jazz and Wilder were so wonderfully cute together, right from the moment they meet.
Being number ten in the series I highly recommend you don’t start your reading here. If you want to give the series a try, start back at the beginning and see the town of Miracle blossom right from that first story.
