All Remy Harker wants is a fresh start.
Well, maybe that’s what he tells himself as he rolls up to his nice new house, in the nice little neighborhood, in a town where nobody knows his name.
He’s surrounded by friendly neighbors and a white picket fence. The ugly pink carpet might drive him to insanity, and he can’t stop wondering where the old lady who lived there before him died—but it’s nice.
And if he puts his mind to it, he can be anything—or anyone—he wants to be. He can be nice too.
At least, he thinks he can until he lays eyes on his next-door neighbor.Luke Boucher is nice.
And quiet.
And perfect.
It doesn’t take long for Remy to insinuate himself into Luke’s life. A camera here, a break-in there.
—It’s not really stalking if you love someone, is it?—
But when Remy’s plan to make a good impression goes to hell, he ends up over his head in more ways than one. Then things aren’t quite so nice anymore.
—It’s not really murder if you love someone, is it?—
Loving your neighbor isn’t so easy when you’re the devil next door.
REVIEW:
When I’m not reading for the blog, I really a lot of people like James Patterson, Stephen King….too many to name. Murder mysteries, thrillers and such. When I pick to read this, I wasn’t aware, at first, they were going to be doing this Criminal Delights series. All standalones, by different authors. And after reading this, if all the books are like this one, I will be excited to read them ALL. Holy crap.
This is NOT a romance. Any book in this ‘series’ is not supposed to be. This book is dark. It deals heavily with murder, torture, dismemberment, stalking and all kinds of goodies that make this a perfect thriller. Also, take note of those things if you have a trigger. This book was so so good. It didn’t get too gory, if that kind of thing bothers you, but it’s well described so you definitely know what is going on. The characters you can’t help but like, in their own f@#ked up, weirdo way. Does that make me a psycho? Lol.
When you first start reading this, it all seems so innocent really. Remy is moving to a new area across the country. You get a feel that life was the greatest from where he moved from, and it was time for a new start. But right off the bat, he’s pretty much stalking his next door neighbor. Cameras pointing at his house, then in his house. He really wants Luke to like him, but can’t seem to do so. Luke seems to have a past that makes him nervous and Remy is trying to remember to take things slow. But after a little bit of getting to know Luke and some time, Remy finds himself in a situation where he is way over his head. And things with Luke may be ruined.
This book takes a twist that I so did not see coming. At all. You figure out pretty quick Remy isn’t quite who he’s supposed to be. After a little bit of time, you figure out Luke is someone different. And then BAM! Totally turns on you. And in such a twisted but good way. I’m trying to be careful because I don’t want to give it away. I actually liked Remy at the start lol. He just seems like he’s had a rough way to go and needs some new outlooks. I had such hopes for him. Even with his bit of stalking, I was hoping he would, maybe, come clean, especially with how much he seems to like Luke. And when he finds out some information from Luke, he really seems to be remorseful for the cameras. Wanting to make things better with Luke and really try with him. And with Luke seeming like such a sweet guy, you can’t help but love him too. You just want to root for these two to get together and be happy. They’re good characters.
This was really good. Just remember it’s not a romance. Hell even the sex is not romantic lol. You’ll see. I hope you all like this as much as I did.
