RELEASE DATE: April 9, 2019
BLURB:
Stetson Major and Curtis Traynor are about as opposite as two cowboys can get. Stetson is a rancher, tied to the land he loves in Taos, New Mexico, while Curtis is a rodeo cowboy whose wanderlust never could be tamed.
But now Stetson’s momma is dying of Alzheimer’s, and she can’t remember that Curtis hasn’t been Stetson’s boyfriend for a long time. Curtis’s absence makes her cry, so Stetson swallows his pride and calls his ex-lover.
To Curtis, Stetson is the one who got away, the love of his life. And Momma is his friend, so he’s happy to help out. Yet returning to the ranch stirs up all sorts of feelings that, while buried, never really went away. Still, the rodeo nationals are coming up, and Curtis can’t stay… even if he’s starting to want to, especially to support Stetson when he needs it most.
Stetson and Curtis want to find a place where they both fit, to be there to catch each other when they fall. But family, money problems, and the call of the rodeo circuit might end their second-chance romance before it even gets started.
REVIEW:
I’ll admit, I feel hard for Stetson and Curtis, right from the beginning.
Stetson only knows how to love one way…hard and without end. He never stopped loving Curtis but knew that the man’s need to be free and on the rodeo circuit would never let them be together.
As soon as he heard Stetson’s voice on the phone, Curtis knew he’d do whatever it took to help him, even if it meant breaking his own heart again.
Love was never the issue between them, but figuring out how to communicate sure caused them some problems.
Stetson made my heart ache. He stayed at home because he loved the land and knew that it was where he belonged. He worked so hard to keep things going and gave up everything, including Curtis, to be true to his place and his family ties.
Curtis used to feel like being tied to one place was akin to being trapped but life without Stetson has him rethinking the way he lives his life.
The connection between Curtis and Stetson is amazing. Their love for each other almost bleeds out of them and I got so frustrated when the communications kept breaking down and the ended up at odds.
Being honest with themselves isn’t something either of them are good at, either.
I loved the author’s description of Taos. It was almost like I could picture it in my mind’s eye. The acceptance that both men found made me smile and I was so glad that homophobia from the people around them wasn’t one of the issues they had to deal with.
I cheered for these two men as I was swept up in their story and I’m not ashamed to admit that I shed a few tears. Stetson especially touched my heart because of the unique kind of bravery he showed as he was taking care of his momma and Curtis as well. It was wonderful to read a story where the characters actually talked things out and didn’t rely on sex (which was beautiful and sexy, btw) to fix everything.
I’ve never been let down by BA Tortuga and I’m happy to say that the record still stands.
