REVIEW:
I’m late to this party I know… This book, or rather this series, has been on my TBR for a long time. But I never did manage to get to it. When I saw that the authors were starting to make their books into audios as well (well Kenneth Obi, deserves the credit for making the audio – but you know what I mean) I hoped that this series would also join that route. So, one day in late March I did a happy dance – or more of a jiggle since I don’t dance – when I spotted this book on Audible. It seems that some wishes do come true.
Anyway… Lucas is a man with a lot of drive and plans. At least as far as business goes. He knows what he wants and where he’s going and nothing is going to stand in his way. But his latest procurement comes with a lot more danger than anticipated, so giving into his friends he reluctantly agrees to a bodyguard. Only he didn’t count on the attraction he’d feel towards Andrei and the temptation the Romanian man brings might just make his carefully constructed walls come crumbling down.
I quite enjoyed listening to this book. It was a great combination of a hot romance and thrilling suspense sprinkled with some great friendships, or rather – family. There were quite a few side characters to keep track of during this ride but I didn’t mind that, it added to this world and plot. It made me want to find out more, know their stories as well as Lucas and Andrei’s.
I would advise you though, don’t go into this book expecting a credible plot. At times it’s quite fantastic and utterly unbelievable. Many times I found myself questioning the actions of the characters, the incompetence of it all, wondering how they could still be alive. However, if you have your mind set to “entertainment” and don’t question anything, you might just have a great time.
Kenneth Obi captured me with his narration, the feelings he added to the different situations and characters really made the experience so much better. I also enjoyed that he had different voices for the various characters, it made it easier to follow who was speaking and keep track of them all. There’s only one things I wished to change; no mumbling. It made it hard to hear at times. Some characters mumbled more than others – and not as part of the book or plot, but purely on Obi’s part.
This was a good start to a new series, and I eagerly wait for the next instalment to be produced.
