Agent Cooper Dayton is going to meet his boyfriend’s werewolf family. Unarmed. On their turf.
And he’s bringing his cat.
When Agent Cooper Dayton agreed to attend the funeral for Oliver Park’s grandfather, he didn’t know what he was getting into. Turns out, the deceased was the alpha of the most powerful werewolf pack on the eastern seaboard. And his death is highly suspicious. Regardless, Cooper is determined to love and support Park the way Park has been there for him.
But Park left him woefully unprepared for the wolf pack politics and etiquette. Rival packs? A seating order at the dinner table? A mysterious figure named the Shepherd? The worst is that Park didn’t tell his family one key thing about Cooper. Cooper feels two steps behind, and reticent Park is no help.
There are plenty of pack members eager to open up about Park and why Cooper is wrong for him. Their stories make Cooper wonder if he’s holding Park back. But there’s no time to get into it…as lethal tranquilizer darts start to fly, Cooper needs to solve the mystery of the alpha’s death and fight for the man he loves—all before someone else dies.
REVIEW:
God I’m addicted to this series, and this is my favourite book so far.
Firstly, you need to read these books as a series. Don’t start here or you’ll be confused, lost and completely unsatisfied. And no one wants to be left unsatisfied!
This book delivers all the family drama you can handle as we finally get to meet the very large, dynastic family that Park has given us so many hints about. With the patriarch dead, Cooper and his grumpy cat accompany Park on a nerve-wracking trip to attend the funeral and meet the family that Park is practically estranged from. For those readers that enjoy stories that include a pushy, nosy, interfering family with an overwhelming superiority complex, then you’re going to love this book.
This time it’s the overly accommodating Park who is the source of so much confusion and emotional constipation, and Cooper is the one left floundering to figure out what his partner is not telling him. Just when I thought I had a handle on these men and the dynamics between them, a completely new awareness of what is going on beneath the surface makes itself known. Park’s past has always been rather mysterious and vague, but I thought I’d learned the gist of what I needed to know. But boy, was I wrong. Park had this big bad past that we had no idea of, but it fits in with the feel of the series perfectly.
But beneath all the dead bodies and crime solving, what I love most about this series is the relationship between Cooper and Park. I was happy with the way the last book finished, I thought they had their shit sorted and their “I love yous” said, but this book took that happy ending and gave it much more depth. With Park so much more vulnerable a character in this book, Cooper forced himself to make himself vulnerable to Park too, and it was abso-frickin-lutely adorable. I love nothing more than when two alpha males (literally in this case) force themselves to expose all those emotions that are typically seen as too feminine for men. There are tears and yearnings for a mother’s love and so much love that I wanted to squeal with happiness. The author even writes the sex scenes as utterly romantic while at the same time they’re ridiculously hot.
I totally recommend this series for lovers of paranormal law enforcement books, but remember, start with the first book!
