Andy’s a recent college graduate with a mountain of debt and a load of regret over earning a degree he’ll never use. When he takes a job at a local gay bar, he doesn’t expect the first person to catch his eye to be the man he’s been dreaming about since a chance encounter.
Joshua’s comfortable in his life. He has an amazing son who’s wise beyond his years, an ex-wife who’s one of his best friends, and a great job. Now, if only those closest to him would quit hounding him to start dating again after the divorce.
Joshua finds what’s been missing with the other people he’s tried dating the first time Andy slips up and calls him Daddy. What starts as a slip of the tongue could lead to what both men really need and want.
REVIEW:
Andy is a sweetheart who is trying really hard to figure out what he wants out of life. His family issues leave him feeling adrift and unable to focus.
Joshua is starting to realize that his life needs to continue after divorcing his wife, who’s also his best friends. He’s been coasting along and he knows it. Meeting Andy sparks something in him that he can’t help but explore.
These are both nice guys who are so conflicted, but mostly within themselves. Joshua has his son and his friends and his ex to balance him out a little, but Andy is pretty much alone and he’s floundering. A chance meeting with Joshua leaves him longing for stronger family connections and a whole lot more.
This story is okay. I liked it, although I had a bit of a hard time getting invested in it at first. The sex is smoking hot, and Joshua’s penchant for taking care of Andy is kind of adorable at first, but I did find it wore on me a bit after a while. Andy needs love and support, but I kinda wanted to see him taking more control over his own life, instead of blaming his issues solely on his family problems.
I liked Joshua’s kid, but I’ll be honest, as someone who’s looked after other people’s kids my whole life, I had a hard time accepting that any kid his age would be so mature and wise, although I suppose it is possible.
If you’ve been squeamish about Daddy kink or BDSM this would be a good story to start with. It’s a more gentle approach to the whole lifestyle that will sort of ease you into it.
I would have liked to have seen more interaction with Joshua’s ex and Andy that showed how their friendship grew but I did like Andy’s dynamic with Joshua’s son.
All in all, it’s a decent story, and I liked it, but I just feel as much of a connection to the characters as I would have liked. I will give the next book in the series a chance because I think this writer has some really good potential.
