Can a fish out of water find a home on the range?
Alex Wheeler arrives in Arizona with a job to do—convince Matthew Parsons to sell his guest ranch to an Americana-themed resort chain. A landscape filled with nothing but cactus and cattle promises a dull week, until he meets the strong, silent cowboy who lassoes his interest. Alex begins to fall for Matthew’s quiet charm, gentlemanly ways, and hidden sweetness. As their friendship and attraction deepen from casual to intense, Alex delays revealing his agenda.
Matthew Parsons has one wish—to keep his family heritage intact despite financial hard times. He has convinced himself his life isn’t lonely, until a dynamic, animated, upbeat stranger erupts into his solitude and breaks down his barriers. Against all odds, a man he could actually grow to care for has come to the middle of nowhere like a gift just for him. Even knowing Alex must soon leave, Matthew can’t help falling a little bit in love.
When the truth comes out and harsh realities must be faced, their budding relationship is trampled. But a bruised bloom may be nurtured back to life even in the harsh desert.
REVIEW:
So, I have to say that I liked this book. I really enjoyed seeing these two men who felt so lonely and who thought that they’d end up spending their lives alone, could find each other and find a lasting love.
Matthew, I really liked the tacturn cowboy who is really just so damn shy. He’s so sweet and caring and he feels so much…he wants to have the land that his great grandfather bought and see it flourish and thrive. The weight of running a ranch and having people there that he needs to interact with and has an issue interacting with them. I have to say that Matthew was such a sweet man and I reallly enjoyed that he has this underlying gentleness to him that just touched my heart.
Alex…Alex is just as lonely as Matthew and he’s has issues with his brother and parents, but he lives a pretty good life. What I liked about Alex was he was mostly pretty self-aware. That he knew that his apartment was just that…an apartment to store things and sleep when he wasn’t on the road. I like that as the book went along, we got to know Alex more. See life thru his eyes and see that he had some insecurities just as Matthew does. Alex wants to have a partner and a life outside of work, he just hasn’t really met anyone who made him want to do that. I like that Alex grows thru this story. That he realizes that the company he works for is like any big company…they don’t see what they’re doing to the people that they “help”…but they also don’t really care about the people whose life they come into. Like these people aren’t real, breathing people. I like that Alex finally faced this and it was wonderful to see.
I have to say that what I really liked about this story was that it was so damn low agnst. I mean, there was a bit…but really…I wasn’t stressed or worried that these two men would figure it out and make it work. I truly enjoyed a story about grown people who didn’t take forever to figure things out and to finally speak to each other.
There was some really great sexy times in the story, however, you won’t feel overwhelmed by them. They were spaced out for the natural conclusion of these two men.
I really have to say that I liked the ending of the story. That even with Alex and Matthew forming a committed relationship, they didn’t really rush anything. They still allowed themselves time to let their love and relationship grow.
A nice, quick read with sweet characters and not much angst…this is a great read.
