Leo Varma doesn’t need love. At thirty-seven, he’s satisfied with focusing on his career, friends, and casual hookups. Besides, getting into a real relationship would mean finally telling his conservative family that he’s gay, and possibly losing them forever. He’s convinced himself that living in the shadows is good enough… until he meets Dylan.
Dylan Drake-Matthews might be a catastrophe on two legs, but he loves life. After taking a part-time job at the club Leo frequents, the wide-eyed nineteen-year-old dives into the kink scene with both feet. When his first few attempts end in disaster, Leo takes Dylan under his wing, and everything clicks in a surprising way.
But secret encounters can only carry them so far. Dylan’s authenticity and personal honesty make Leo wish things were different in his own life, while Leo’s family situation keeps him from being what Dylan needs. Can Leo face his fears? Or will he let the love he never expected to find slip through his fingers?
Leo & His Lion is an 80K word May/December, kitten play MM romance featuring an adorable kitten, the sexy man he calls Daddy, and superhero underwear. It is the second book in the Oh My! series and can be read as a standalone.
REVIEW:
So the first thing I want to say about this book is that although it can technically be read as a stand alone, it really does feel like the reader is dropped into the middle of a story already in progress. There are some things that happen with the side characters (some of whom are probably the MC’s in the first books and some who may be the MC’s in subsequent books) that sort of distract from Leo and Dylan’s story.
That being said, I really did like Leo and Dylan.
Leo is a man who is at war with himself. He keeps telling himself that he’s happy with his career and his friends and that hiding who he really is to keep his family happy doesn’t really bother him. It’s an easy lie to tell until he meets Dylan.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Dylan is sweet. The boy is sweet as sugar but he has a hot streak a mile wide. Open minded and willing to try anything, he’s the perfect sweetheart to worm his way into Leo’s heart and break down the wall he’s built around it.
One little spoiler here, but I love the fact that Dylan has two mom’s. Once again it’s nice to see positive female characters appearing in m/m romances. I was getting a little tired of gay men living in worlds inhabited by nothing but bitchy, nasty women.
The author has given Leo and Dylan some really good friends as well. Siobhan is Leo’s best friend, the one who runs the club he attends and helps him out with his family. She’s tough and honest but is always there for him.
Dylan has a group of friends who look out for him and is one of those people who brings out the caregiver in those around him. It’s that personality trait that appeals to the Dom in Leo and makes him impossible to get out of Leo’s mind.
There’s a lot to like about this book, including the smoking hot sex and adorable kitten Dylan. It’s not perfect however. I understand about instant connections and all, but for Leo, he’s adamant about having no relationships and it felt like he should have taken a little longer to come around in his acceptance.
The feeling of being dropped into the middle of a story doesn’t help either.
I did enjoy watching Dylan grow into his personality. Seeing his confidence grow as he figures out who he is made me smile.
I also enjoyed watching Leo come to grips with his own issues and the realistic struggles he and his family faced along the way.
I have a feeling that I will be looking for the first book in the series so I can catch up and I will be waiting for the next books to come.
