My job is putting out fires–PR fires, that is. Partner in one of the most prestigious PR firms in Hollywood, I’ve lived most of my life helping others stay in the spotlight but keeping as far away from it myself as humanly possible.
Enter Jace Kruse.
#HottieFirefighter is the hashtag everyone is using for the overnight Insta-star who made headlines when a pic of him with a pooch he saved from a runaway vehicle went viral. Doesn’t have anything to do with my life until a major potential client shows interest in an endorsement deal with the internet sensation, and Jace becomes my ticket to stomping the ass of one of my company’s fiercest competitors.
Problem is: Jace isn’t swayed by dreams of fame and fortune. He prefers his down-to-earth life in Fever Falls and has turned down every company who’s approached him to leech off his recently acquired celebrity status.
But where others have failed, I’m confident I can succeed. If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s persuading. And after a few encounters with Jace, the easy-go-lucky, ever-charming, sexy-as-hell, and surprisingly #topcurious firefighter has me persuading him about more than signing on for an endorsement deal.
He may be good at putting out fires, but Jace sure knows how to start them in the bedroom…and then in my heart. However, between his rising star power and the intensity of my feelings, I know where this inferno is leading, and if we don’t put it out soon, someone’s gonna get burned.
REVIEW:
Boy, nothing like reading along, enjoying a good book, maybe a few sniffles, but nothing like the end, where you can’t help but ugly cry. But it’s so worth it. This was a good book. Hot firefighters? Makes for a smoking hot story. 😉
I’ve always admired people who were in relationships with people who were cops, firefighters, even military. It’s hard not knowing if they’re going to come home or not because of something happening on the job. But then if you think about it, none of us really know when our last day will be so we love anyway and live lives to the fullest. Or should. So it makes me happy to see people loving in those relationships. No matter the fears.
For Dax, he didn’t even really think about that part. All he concentrated on, at first, was how much he wanted Jace, or Hottie Firefighter, to be able to land the hottest account in the biz right now. And knowing they were looking at another firm, made Dax promise things he shouldn’t have. But he was determined. When he met Jace, he quickly understood the appeal, but the more he got to know Jace, the more he almost wished he never bothered. Oh sure, Jace was no innocent man. But he was pure, good. With a heart the size of the ocean. He wasn’t even considering signing for himself. He was going to use the money to help kids who needed it. And suddenly, Dax didn’t want Jace to be corrupted by the assholes of Hollywood. He wanted him to stay pure. But Jace decided to anyway. The more the got to know each other, the more the chemistry, and Dax, who thought Jace was purely straight, was finding his lips being pressed on by Jace. Which ended up leading to other things. But the more they’re together, the more they don’t want to be apart, and feelings they tried not to have are coming on fast. And just when they think they might be able to deal with them, something happens as rocks the world from under both their feet. Now they have to decide if it’s worth it or if it’s time to just let it go.
What was so hard with both of these guys, is that they have pasts that they’ve buried and try not to deal with. But in the business they were in, it was going to come up sooner or later. And it did. It made things hard, but what I really loved about Jace is that he kept going. He blew it off and kept going. Until he couldn’t any more. But even then he tried. That takes strength and courage. But sometimes you just have to let go. For Dax, he finally had to put everything on the line with his past to finally be free of it.
The camaraderie between them was hilarious. It was almost like a one up game but in good fun. The chemistry was electric. For Jace it was hilarious with how he went about it. He was mostly ‘straight’, but had an experience with a guy in college. (Don’t they all lol). But what cracked me up so bad, is the way he would ask his friends Ash and Beau about bjs and bottoming. Oh my gah, it was funny as hell. And then it just made it more comical with Dax and Jace in bed. The quips they traded back and forth. It’s an important part of the relationship. Laughter is always good in bed….in the right way. It’s intimate. And opens both people up to the other.
So yeah, another good one by Devon. I have a feeling who’s coming next in this series but I’m still curious. It’s been a good one so far.
