Newspaper reporter, Granger Galloway, is in charge of the Valentine’s Bazaar, an annual fundraiser for the LGBTQ community of Salem, Massachusetts. This year, no one has volunteered to man the Bazaar’s hottest attraction: The Kissing Booth. After being turned down by every gay and straight man he knows, Granger does the unthinkable and hires the pros at Valentine’s Inc. to send him the perfect fake boyfriend to man the booth. The problem now is how to explain the gorgeous man kissing the mayor’s lips off is a Rent-A-Hunk!
Lennox MacArthur looks like a model straight off the cover of a Highland romance novel, kilt and all. When he’s hired by Granger to be his Valentine’s weekend boyfriend and man the kissing booth for charity, he figures it will be an easy gig. He never counted on losing his heart to the awkwardly adorable reporter. His conundrum is that he’s kissing every cop, fireman, witch, bored housewife, and granny in town except the one man who stole his heart on sight.
When Granger mistakes Lennox’s true feelings for part of their fake boyfriends act, will it ruin his one chance at true love or will Granger land the man of his dreams if he sets aside his pride and takes his turn in line at the kissing booth?
REVIEW:
Alright ladies and gents, who here has seen these Harlequin covers, I know Jude Deveraux and Elizabeth Thornton had them as well, but without lying, who has seen those highland covers with that large as hell man on the cover, covered with chest hair, with his white billowing shirt open to his navel, and wearing a kilt, and drooled the drools of a dog. Don’t lie! Don’t be ashamed. We ALL did it. And I am here to tell you, that hunk is a main character. He’s a redheaded bear with fur all over and wears a kilt for the bazaar. If you’re like me, the first thought is “holy hell” and the second is “I wonder what’s under that kilt”. Or vice versa. Could you imagine if Pandora had put HIM on the cover. Holy shit, I wouldn’t be able to read the book. And it’s a damn good one.
Granger needs a hunk for the kissing booth since the normal guy had to go to the birth of his goddaughter. Granger searched EVERYWHERE. No one wanted to do it. He was at his last rope. He was going to check emails one more time, he’d have to do it himself. And he was disappointed because he didn’t think he’d be able to get much money. He doesn’t consider himself hunky. As he was giving up on everyone else, the Valentine’s Inc banner caught his eye and he thought ‘what the hell’. He found not only what he needed, but someone very close to the dream man he’s used for mental spank bank for the last few years. But seeing Lennox in the flesh was short-circuiting his brain. Photos didn’t do that man justice. And he had the accent as well. Deep, and strong Scottish. Granger was going to die right here.
But the booth went off with success, the first day raising more money than ever for the RED charity. (For HIV/AIDS) But having to watch his dream man kiss all those people was turning his stomach green with envy. They spent their nights eating dinner and getting to know each other after the bazaar and Granger was falling. What he didn’t know, was so was Lennox. But miscommunication has made things difficult and Granger has to try to fix it before he loses the literal !an of his dreams and the one of his heart.
I was sad for Granger. It was stressful trying to get this bazaar together. It’s a big job. But what made me sad is that he was so down on himself. He didn’t think he could raise money for the charity on his own. He was such a sweetheart and everyone adored him. He may not be a supermodel but he was beautiful in his own way. Especially the way he took care of LGBTQ issues. He’s such a good man. What cracked me up, was how he reactions were at seeing Lennox for the first time. I think I would have acted the same way. He tripped over everything, his brain was mush, and his tongue seemed to quit working lol. It was so adorable. And Lennox thought so too.
But what I loved about Lennox, is he truly is a gentleman. Everyone is googoo eyed over how he looks but he’s more than that. Amd Granger saw it. He defended Lennox when things started getting too much at the booth. He didn’t want Lennox uncomfortable or upset. Or treated like a piece of meat. Lennox was a gentle giant. He cared for Granger. Little touches. The way he always crocked Granger’s hand in his elbow to walk together. Made me want to melt. So beautiful.
This was such a sweet sweet story. Perfect for Valentine’s.
